Bud,
Thanks for the kind words. I'm glad you like the new mufflers. It is a great mod.
Chuck,
I'll be in the shop working on cars Saturday (Boxsters and 993). It would be great if you could come down, and yes, I have a nice mod that works well on 3.4 cans. So if you would like to unload your cans, let me know.

I have to bring you the CD of the pictures I took at your shop warming anyway...so I'll bring you some 3.4L cans. It's going to cost you a Corona or two... Besides, I feel the need for speed.....and that levee road is a blast to drive....with due caution and being mindful of other drivers of course.

Also want you to look at that stainless Brey Kraus extinguisher mount for the 930.

Which is the best mod for 3,4 engines?
Here in Madrid a friend of mine wants to mod his cans, and I told him to do this one:

Chuck,
No problem. I'll take care of the welding for you (and the Coronas!)

I did some testing on some 993 mufflers with less backpressure then stock, and the results were disappointing.
hi by doing by back pressure to work properly?

Also, what size pipes and hole do you use? Does larger means better?

I see how you weld the connecting pipes levelled. Another design i saw was to weld it at an angle where the part nearer to the inlet is lower.

Does angle of the connecting pipe makes a difference?

What is the difference between the connecting pipe mod and the addtional outlet pipe mod and both together?

Appreciate a response

Buz,

Here is a link to post #23 in this thread.
It should give you some additional info.

I think you are over analyzing this mod. I have responded to your post about 997 PSE mufflers on the 997 forum. You have a few options here:
  • If you mod 997 mufflers like the pic in post #23, they will sound much better than stock, probably very similar to true PSE.
  • or....You could do the mod shown in the 997 thread where you install a connecting pipe between the inlet and outlet pipe.
  • or.... you could do both.

Personally, I woud do one or the other but not both unless I had heard mufflers that had both mods.

This is an old but very helpful thread on the MKII Hack Mod. I have been here many times making copies of pictures and reading. this seems like the best place to archive MY pictures of the mod for others to see.....
these are a set of 3.6 cans I picked up off ebay, I had a buddy do the welding for lunch and beers... (I will slip him some cash later)
The insides of the welds are true to the pipe, they really look good IMO

Here ya go.. Our interpritation....

They are in and sound great, we got snow again so I will get a clip uploaded asap, there is a tunnel near my house, that should produce a nice sound byte !

It took 3 or more weeks to get these back from him, but I wasnt in a hurry and I like how it turned out...notice my 3.4 cans = instantly "for sale" LOL
