PSE Modded 3.6 Mufflers - how close in sound to a real PSE?
I've searched thru the posts of the folks who have modded their OEM cans to be "like" a PSE...though everyone seems to like the results of the sound (at least on the 3.6 cans) how close is it really to the OEM PSE?? I won't get the debate going again on the 3.4 cans vs the 3.6 ones...but nobody really ever said how close the sound came to a PSE.
I've already been given the advice to just buy the OEM PSE, but modding for ~$200 or buying new for ~$2K is a big difference!!!!
THanks in advance,
Will

Three Wheelin'
2.25" actually fit better when they cut the cap off the 3.4L exhaust cans that I just did.
I also thought this was discussed before but isn't the 3.4 and 3.6 internals the same.

I think that I did read that someone had cut open the two mufflers (3.4 and 3.6) and that they were the same...but then there are still folks who said they are different...and also different in sound. In fact there was a post with someone who had tried both exhaust and they said the 3.6 was more sounding like a PSE than the 3.4 - it was posted by "87turbolook911"

PSE mod - 3.4s are different
FYI about 3.4 vs 3.6 mufflers -
I did the MKII version 2 mod (2 1/4" pipe from bypass to outlet) on a set of 2000 (3.4) mufflers this weekend and for all the work, it barely got any louder or throatier - almost unnoticable. I'm waiting to receive some used 3.6s, and will post a follow-up when I've done the mod on them.
If you're thinking of doing the mod on 3.4 mufflers, and want a noticable sound difference - do the version 1 mod that connects the inlet directly to the outlet with the small pipe MKI, v1. Or get 3.6 cans like people in here suggest.
With my first experience modding 3.4s, I'd say the consensus is correct - something's different with the 3.6s that makes them louder.
Hope this helps someone.

A while back, I did the MK II version (2.25” pipe) "PSE hack" on a set of 3.4 ('99 -'01) mufflers. They were a little louder and a little deeper sounding than the sound of the stock 3.6 ('02 -'04) mufflers. However, I was disappointed that the modified mufflers weren’t much louder than the stock mufflers.
I am awaiting delivery of a set of 3.6 mufflers that I will modify in a similar fashion to the 3.4 "cans." Hopefully, I will have this completed within a week. When I have them swapped out, I will report back on my opinion of the differences in the sound.

I'm also eagerly awaiting my set of 3.6 mufflers to do the MK II mod. I've read about people doing the hack with 1 5/8", 2" and 2.25", is there a consensus on what to use and what differences the sizes will have on sound?
