I have yet to find the 3.6 cans I need but there is a set of Cargraphics on ebay at a descent price...I know nothing about them. Anyone out there that can help? I have looked at the web site but not much info there. I am still looking for the 3.6 ...I hate the way my car sounds and reading about all the satisfaction of the mod just makes me jealous...NOW IN A HURRY to hear the sweet roar

Well 14 pages of reading with great input and pictures. So thanks to everyone sharing.

I have found a set of 3.6 mufflers, should get them next week. My cousin-in-law owns a muffler shop so no problem getting the mod done, and probably FREE

So to understand this correctly, as my cousin hasn't done this mod but I will take pictures with me and the car:

1. Cut hole in plug area (size 1.5")
2. Weld in SS 2.25" pipe as shown in pictures.

That's it right?

I will let you know how things go and my own personal feelings of this mod.

I installed a modified stock muffler for my 02 996. Thanks to OrientExpress for donating his stock muffler so I don't have any downtime.

I used 2.25 pipe. I was surprised how quiet it was compared to stock. Not much change in sound below 3k rpm. Above 3k, the noise is a little more obvious, maybe 15-20% louder and slightly more transparent.

Honestly, I was a little disappointed at the result. Even though I didn't pay much ($100 and 2 hrs of my time for install), I would not have bothered since I was happy with stock. If anyone is thinking of upgrading, I'd opt for real PSE or go with a nice aftermarket. Just my opinion. I know there are a lot of people who have done it and liked it. I heard real PSE and this mod is definitely not close to the same sound.

You must not have done it right....or maybe you used the 3.4L muffler, or did you do the MKI mod because there is a big chorus of guys on this forum who will tell you that the MKII mod for the 3.6L mufflers is an awesome sound....much louder than stock especially above 3500 rpm. When I drive thru my neighborhood, I usually keep it below 3000 just so I don't irritate the neighbors..

It sounds just like the PSE for the most part. Just doesnt have the switch to turn off and on. Mine is a lot louder. I love it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I don't think there is a way to mess it up. A pipe is welded from one to the other i mean.... Unless the muffler shop didn't make a cut out big enough, I don't know what could be wrong. They have done a few and seem to be competent. The muffler is definitely out of a 3.6L and the mod is done as described. I've actually sat in both another 3.6L PSE hacked car as well as real 3.6L PSE. I think it's consistent with what I've heard.

Anyhow, just wanted to share my experience with you. I don't doubt what you've read or experienced. I was just surprised how little difference there is.

FWIW, I can attest to the fact that the MkII mod on 3.4 cans does NOT work.

+1 on the fact that the MK II mod on 3.4L cans does not do much to the sound. However, the MK I mod on 3.4L cans should get a good sound.
