Darin only uses Stainless....I've had his mufflers in for about 6 months now and no problems. You have to consider that the mufflers themselves are stainless....the welds are stainless.....how much better does it get?

I think I'm going to do the MkII Mod. I have no time for it and as I'll have to make the inspection to the pcar in 2-3 months, I'll get the cans removed and will go to the exhaust shop to do it.

My conclusion is that in 3.6L cans, a well done bypass with 2" 1/4 SS in a fine welded work, will be close to PSE in 80%. More or less what I'd like. I drove a 996 C4S with OEM PSE and switch, yesterday and sounds wonderful. I thought It would be higher and a bit disturbing, but I must say that I was wrong: I want it

But I have a doubt: Why didn't you get electrical valves installed? If you make a similar instalation to OEM PSE, you could switch off whenever you want.
Is it a very diffcult thing? You could keep your original low sound while you were cruising an urban street or similar place to preserve the noise and not disturbing the neighburghood in nighty hours, just clicking the dash button.

Did you try to do?

Thanks all the guys who posted real and tested info, pics, videos, and helped the others.

Nobody knows?

Joaquin - Here is a pic of PSE mufflers from the Carnewal site. In order to convert stock (non-PSE) mufflers to work like true PSE mufflers, you would have to:

1. Add a valve (flap) in the "extra" pipe (shown in blue) which could be opened or closed with vacuum pressure.
2. Add actuators (shown in red) to open or close the flap
3. Add vacuum hoses.
4. Add the wiring to control the vacuum "on/off" switch.

The bottom line is that it would be just too difficult and costly to do this to stock mufflers. IN the long run, you would be better off getting REAL PSE mufflers if you wanted to be able to control the loud/quiet mode.

Thanks Tim.
I can see It's a very complex task...

I want to show you a bypass made in a Boxster by a friend of mine. He posted good pictures, and add two manual valves (different from the ones in pics).

What do you think about it?
(Sounds fantastic)

Adding valves :
Too complicated and expensive.
A big waste of time and money. It is a subtle mod, not too loud.
Why would you ever want turn them off?
Just one man's opinion.

I just wanted to know if it was able spending a bit more money, but I can see that's better doing the hack as all of you did.

Thanks

Sorry.
I'm from Madrid (Spain) and my english level is very low.
Hack, mod, handwork... I would like to know the proper word.

If you guys see anything that I wrote wrong, I'll be glad to be corrected.

Thanks

Joaquin, I think your English is pretty good....for a Spaniard living in Spain.

Darin's craftsmanship is of a very high level.
I'm sure that it will not make any difference with whatever terms we use,
he's still the master!
He knows it, and we know it!

Besides, it does take great skills to "hack" into something, doesn't it.....

As always Darin is the ONLY one to see if you live in Northern California, but come from wherever you want too to get the mod done.

Bill, glad to hear that you hooked-up with Darin and of course he took care of you

Chuck, you are always bragging about being Darin's first

Yep either get the PSE system or do the MKII mod. I would not spend the time and money on trying to make a PSE setup IMHO.

With the MKII mod it is not as loud as a PSE and so there is no reason to turn it off, so no need for valves with the MKII setup.

I looked at the Boxster bypass thread, wow that is some small diameter pipe, but I am no exhaust expert to know if that is a good or bad thing.
