996 and Sleep Mode!!
Is there any way to disable the "sleep mode" on the vehicle. My car now has twice gone into sleep mode if I have not driven the car over a week. I have to get under the car find the auxiliary trunk cable, set the alarm off, disconnect the battery to make the keys open the car again. This is becoming a hassle

Your key won't manually open the drivers door when it's in sleep mode? That's how it is designed to work when the car is in sleep mode but maybe there is something different with your car?

Open the car using the key and the lock in the driver door. You will then have 30 seconds to turn the ignition switch on before the alarm goes off.
no need to take the car apart 😁

When I stick the key in the door nothing works, I turn it to the right nothing? Turn it to the left nothing! turn it and hold the button on key, nothing! Key fob flashes the red light but nothing works.

Yeah, fix the door lock. My car goes to sleep and I just use my key and it wakes up. All good, every time.

So u dont get a mechanical clunk that unlocks the door? If not get the fixed asap. Its usually the linkage but sometimes the mechanism itself.

^^ Right. Actually, if I insert my key and turn and hold it, all my windows drop and the convertible top drops. Hold it in the lock position and it’s the reverse. It’s a nice feature.

I would do this sooner than later because the door lock is the only way to get into the car. The only other way is to not wait so long to turn the car on.

Is the 996 like the 997's as far as alarm in that it saves battery life by enabling it when you are not driving it for a while? I assume so?

Thanks

Yes after about 4 days the receiver for the key fob is powered down.
What I do is use the key to unlock and then re-lock the door. Then use the fob to unlock the car. This shuts off the alarm.

On the 997's as I recall you wanted to activate alarm in order to not slow drain the battery of the car. Upon turning the alarm off with the FOB or via the door key within 30 seconds you had to insert the key into the ignition otherwise the alarm triggers. The latter of that process does not seem to be present on this newly acquired 996.

It’s also good to keep your key fob far enough away from the car so as to not trigger intermittent wakefulness.

I accidentally left my key in the ignition a few nights ago. When I went back two days later, the battery was drained… Note to self - don’t do that!

I sometimes don’t take my key out because as soon as I do, the dome lights go on. Having the key in (even in the off position) seems to do something once the car has been on before.
