You are not paying attention. His car is a 996.

Read rule 1

Read the rest of the OP and the follow on posts. Looking at what results people have had with the mods and swaps on their non turbo/GT 996s is the point of the thread.

I’m just going to get this out there. If you’re a purists who’s intolerant of people doing what they want with these cars and you’re gonna try to muck this thread with your negativity - please just don’t click the thread title.

I want to root for your project... as my tuning roots are in Japanese cars going back into the early-mid 90's. It's just your attitude that is a turn off. Why not just come in and say the 996 is a great platform that you want to experiment on as opposed to hey, the M96 is terrible, and the 996 is a piece of junk. What are you trying to accomplish here? Most of us (including me) hope you achieve all your goals. Why approach us in this way?

Whatever. I've said this before and you choose to go about it your own way. I follow your progress, but I'm less excited about it as I would be if you didn't make it a point to tell us our cars and engines are terrible.

My cars a 996. Don’t be so threatened man. Man up and make some big m96 power to prove Hondas suck in this chassis.

Please highlight where I ever said the 996 is a piece of junk. Don’t put words in my mouth in order to conjure up a negative opinion of me. I own a 996 and have a deposit on another. They are fantastic platforms, best car I have ever owned. The m96 is a bad motor. Hate to break the news to you but it’s pretty well documented that they barley hold up in stock form and are extremely expensive to fix or modify.

Let’s keep this away from an M96 vs the world thread, not the intent.

I think you guys have said your piece.

👍🏻 I’m building a LS swapped 996 exhaust this week for a guy. Hoping to talk him into getting it dynoed right after. Will post up when finished!

Dude I have nothing against Honda. My other toy is a Honda Civic Type R with the lowly K20 engine factory rated at 306hp. My M96 has plenty of hp for me(not stock) and so does the Honda.

To each their own.

Hey @wildbilly32 do you have a dyno graph of your not stock M96 you can add to the conversation ?

Would be awesome if you do if you would share with the community.

I don't have a dog in this fight BUT I've been looking at rollers and one engine I've seen swapped that has a rep for being a solid one is a 3.2 VR6. Speed Density in TN does them and if I were to ever get a reasonable roller, I'm looking at either a Rotex Supercharged version or adding a single turbo. Very few things sound as cool as a VR6! They have a 1200hp Turbo VR6.

I do have that and have no intention to post it. Thanks for asking anyway.

Can’t be worse than my baseline chart of my m96. Can it? If it is you might have some mechanical issues maybe we can help you with.

I'd do a 3.6 VR6 before a 3.2. Hey, Porsche used the 3.6 VR6 in some vehicles so it's still all Porsche. (Actually they used the 3.2 as well, which is a bit of a dog in a Cayenne.) I think the 3.6 VR6 could be run by the 996 stock engine management with the right wiring harness.
I met a fellow who is marketing an Audi 2.9 turbo swap for 996. He had his demo car on display at a show earlier this year.
