Threw on my MY02 wheels with Michelin PSS and went out for a track inspection at local dealer. Super close on the waitlist so fingers crossed!

For me, this is the essence of 911. When the stance, wheels, ride height and “ground effects” come together to make a tight little ball of muscle. It really puts the shape of the car forward and makes it looked attached to the ground. What ever the **** that means.

Car looks amazing! someone suggested MY02 wheels for my 6.1 and now I understand why.

What is the waitlist for? What’s a track inspection? Dealer was just having an event or is this something certain dealers offer?

thanks.

Thanks! Really pleased with how the car has turned out thus far. Like you said, the combination of small details comes together quite well.

I signed up for a HPDE track day but due to the amount of people (and partially me signing up a bit later) I was placed on a wait list. People usually drop out a bit and spots open up closer to the date. When that happens you get a call and option to attend. At that point you want to have the inspection done so you're ready to go as it can be 2-3 days before the event. I'm a track noob and there are guys far more knowledgable on here, but for my PCA Potomac region, your car needs to have a pre-track inspection done. It usually consists of a general check of the car to make sure there are no leaks, tires are good, brakes, brake fluid and few other things. You get a track inspection form, stamped by the place that performed it and bring it to the track. At the track there is a second brief inspection to make sure everything is A OK. It's all about safety. PCA usually works with local shops and dealerships where you can go and have the inspection done for free or for a small donation. In this case, Porsche Chantilly opened up it's shop space and let us use the lifts so it was a great experience.

I've been updating the interior of my 03' Targa over the past couple of years. The options my car doesn't have that I wish it did is full leather and X97/X98 (shifter/handbrake). As a partial leather with black interior...it's a lot of black and with late 90's era plastics it looks a bit "cough" cheap and bland.

My goal was to update, stay OEM (when possible) without going overboard (which I know is subjective). In any case, I started by sourcing (and paying way too much $) for new OEM Porsche shifter and handbrake lever to create my own X97 & X98 optioned 911. Then I had the lower and upper console painted seal grey to match the exterior. Finally, today I installed Dodituning aluminum rings. They're not OEM but I like the way they match aluminum look in shifter, handbrake and other standard bits in the interior. Once I get the front seats recovered, my 98,000 mile Targa will be looking good!

How do you like the difference between your new wheels and the old 19s?

In short, dramatically different and better and every way.

But, there is probably more to that than just the wheels. I went from 2019 date code used Nitto NT555 G2 in 235/35 19 + 305/30 19 to brand new Michelin Pilot Sport 4s in 245/40 18 + 295/30 18. The wheels are 18x9 and (I think) 18x11.5. The difference in weight between the rear wheels (with tires mounted) was incredible. The rear 19s are HEAVY in comparison.

I tried to be pretty nonchalant about the change. I wanted to see if I could "feel a difference" between the two sets of wheels/tires without looking for it. If I could tell in a blind test. Well, I seemingly drove a few feet before I felt a difference, and it was apparent. The car feels way nimbler. Its light on its feet. It also feels quicker. And it soaks up bumps and imperfections in the road a lot better. The car isn't as stiff, but the front tires have noticeably way more grip. It does tramline a bit more, but that's probably due to the 245 front tires. But, overall, way better.

It is hard to pick up in pictures, but the visual difference is also pretty huge. The E88s are amazing.

I can also attest to the Michelin PS4S tires dramatically improving the ride quality. Between that, their shape on the rim and performance they are one of the better choices for a do it all tire.

Big fan of the Conti DWS06+, a little harder compound for longer tread life.
