What brand trans bushing is that? Wondering if it was manufactured with the wrong interference and stressed the trans case.
I went back and looked, it is a Lemforder bushing.

I dig the shop sandals...in the winter I transition to crocs with wool socks...but I'm all 'bout that shop sandal life.
Shop sandals are my jam.
I don't know what the heck I've done with my calipers so can't measure it at the moment. I need to clean up and hopefully they'll appear.
Ordered a new case from Jim Ellis Porsche last night, then promptly got refunded this morning with an email saying they made a mistake on their website. OK.
So now I've ordered a brand new casing from Rose Passion. Should be here in 2-3 days. Will be interesting to see if it has the bearings pressed in, I'm guessing not. If this order gets kicked back, I'm going to look for a 997 box to put in.
sounds ridiculous but free time to get over there is my limiting factor.
Thats not so ridiculous. Having a part show up and you can bolt it together when you get time is a lot easier and less stressful than the welding aspect. Welding is likely cheaper but you’d also have to worry about the size of the hole afterwards. It could crack again if welded up and the bushing is too large. I’d check that bushing size and compare to original or OEM new before pressing one back in.
Rose Passion in France came through. Pleasant surprises with the needle bearings being installed, as well as the main bearing race, new brass shifter sleeves, shifter seal, and fresh oem rubber mount.
Only piece I need to replace is the seal for the output shaft. Just happened to have an extra in my stash. Now to find the time to put it back together and back in the car!! Hopefully a few more nights in the garage and it will be done….
Becoming a pro at this mess now. Thankfully I have 6 forward gears and reverse (and 2WD until I hit the dyno). The shifter sits slightly further to the right than I remember. But it could be in my head as I’ve driven the e30 a couple of times since.
Was hoping to go for test drive but ran out of time; the battery had gone flat, and family obligations.
So it will sit on the car trickle charger until Friday. Then fingers crossed for a smooth drive…
I am glad that I replaced the case and not welded it. I took a sledge hammer to the old case to vent 😆
Back up and running. 5 mile test drive and all is well. Hardly any difference in how it drove with the broken mount versus the new unit. I feel like the 2-3 shift is a bit smoother but no drastic differences at all.
2WD drive conversion? Zero noticeable difference in acceleration. A hint of understeer but that could be cold tires on a cold day.
But wow is this car a fun drive, glad it’s back up and running 🙂
