It is officially the highest bid non-S 996 cab to ever sell on that platform. I commented on the auction thread that it was only a year ago that a mint lower mileage black C4S with cinnamon leather everything (including AC vents) sold for $40,500.. only $3,250 more than today’s car, which didn’t have an interior anywhere as nice. That car sold in June 2020. This year will be very interesting for clean 996s. As time rolls on, the pool of clean and cared for 996s will dwindle. It also helps that many are receiving the preventative maintenance they deserve.
I wonder if it would have eeked out a few more bucks had the cab window not been in the process of delaminating and it had a black interior. I know neither of those things is deal breakers but the cab tops aren't cheap to replace on this and I know a lot of people dislike gray interiors. Overall it looked like a very nice car.
Thanks for posting, I forgot about this one, I remember seeing it when it popped up. Wonder if it will get driven at all, looks like the winner says he has a collection of targas.

I bought a 996 40AE a few months ago. I was pretty set on getting NB 996 and the 40AE seemed like the culmination of all good things 996 that weren't super crazy cost wise (GT3/GT2/Turbo). During my search (winter 2020-2021) I saw prices $34k to $52k. $34k being 100k miles with accident history, etc and $52k being similar to yours without mods. I opine that your mods are tasteful and functional, but for most they may be a value detractor (until they test drive it). Seems like the prices are going up again as summer arrives around the country. Would expect a clean and maintained (preventative and otherwise) 40AE to sell for north of $45k. I would think you could get $45-50k in current form with the right buyer.
I think that that car will have a bunch
of the issues that plague the engine. Maybe they bought it to put it in a collection but those targa tops can really give a lot of issues. You could have gotten a turbo for that money.

You never really know, could be perfectly fine. A lot of people are wary of low mileage 996's, I'm not one of them.
He did note it was the last Targa that he needed for his collection, so who knows, maybe it will sit around for another 20 years and remain at 2k miles. Sure it could buy a turbo, but not everyone wants a turbo. This gentleman sure didn't.
I think that 1999 guards red C2 at no reserve on BaT is the definition of perfect presentation. It has 13 previous owners, previous minor damage, and no records as far as I can tell, but here we are at $25K with 4 days left. I think the car looks amazing (I'd go back to oem wheels), but I also thought it was going to sell for below average 73K mile cars. I am interested in seeing what it does in the final minutes of the auction. There is almost always some action lately.
I want to thank the Fed and Congress for all their help in pushing up prices with over 8 trillion in monetary and fiscal stimulus over the past 12 months.
I would also like to thank all the greenies who are doing their best to eliminate the supply of petrol powered vehicles.
Lastly, I want to thank my Mom, for allowing me to hang Porsche pictures on my wall as a kid.
Hah! Love the run-up in prices. Its about damn time the 996 gets the respect it deserves. 😁

Add mismatched tires to the list! Three Michelin Pilot Sports and one Nexen N5000 tire.
Wouldn't this car have fetched low-to mid teens a year or so ago???
Now is not the time to sell, remember 964 it ramped up for a decade or more. Still going to some extent.
Honestly, I'm on the fence about that statement. I recently sold mine and while I wish I still had it, some life changes unfortunately dictated the sale. With that being said, I am very interested to see what happens to 996 values if/when a economic down turn arrives. I for one think the 996 will come back to the values we are currently seeing and higher, but do not think they will be immune whenever this facade of an economy crumbles.
