Very cool.
Are you leaving this on the mainland or sending it to the islands?
With all due respect, will you be able to ring that thing out on an island? My naivety is showing. I’ve only been to Maui twice, before I could drive. once to the big island. I did drive around that one, sightseeing, in one long day.😎
congrats. It doesn’t get any better than this....yet.😀

I broke my finger last weekend working on my old Honda 250R ATC, so I am slowed down a little bit. I should have it completed a week from today, as long as nothing gets in my way.
I made changes to this one just because if this, the power band is more along the lines of what Bill can actually use, and this combo makes more torque gains than HP the way I have it set up. The power comes in earlier, and enhances drivability.

So first and second gear are REALLY going to be "sit down-shut up and HANG ON!!!"

Very cool you tune the power band for customers use. When tuning power band, what’s the preferred tool in your box ? Camshaft, timing, runner length ?
Do you find the variocam useful as a tuning parameter ?

There's no single tool for this.. Everyone seems to think that building an engine a certain way means using a certain ingredient. That could not be further from a reality, in my direct experiences over the past 3 decades of my life.
The whole engine must work together like one well- oiled machine. The way I impress people isn't with some huge peak power number on a dyno plot. I make the engine gain everywhere, while losing NOTHING. Its easy to make big HP, if you don't mind losing the bottom end, id- range, and drivability at the same time. That is why "race engine builders" are the WORST when it comes to building street engines, and more so a dual purpose street and track engine. They do everything to make a big peak number, and they don't care what they lose while doing so.
To me, creating an engine combination is a challenge that equates to a soup recipe. You must have the balance of ingredients perfect, and couple that to the cooking time, and temperature to get it right. Engines are truly developed when the camshafts timing/ characteristics, compression ratio, cylinder head port profiles (velocity, and volume), as well as the intake/ exhaust are all working together with the bore and stroke to make the engine shine for a given APPLICATION and target desire of the end user. Ultimately, all of these things are then brought together with the tuning package, and if done right, mild engines can still use the stock ECU tune to maintain optimization. Don't forget about cylinder seal, and oil as being huge factors here, too. If the engine lacks cylinder seal, its going to do a whole lot of nothing, be impossible to tune, and be lazy no matter what. If I had to choose one particular essential when it comes to performance that you MUST get right, it would be cylinder seal. Without it, you have a boat anchor, and that's why I have spent 22 years constantly developing the essentials for cylinder seal with my engines.
At the end of the day, what single tool that it takes to do one thing well, relates on everything within the engine, and car to create. This is why each factor in the huge equation has to be considered, along with the operating environment.

Yes, no free lunch, understood. That is why I asked your preferred method and thought your input on camshaft and intake/plenum design, cam timing would be interesting. Port volume and velocity is a good one I did not think to include in my question.
Some lunches although less expensive - give you more value.
Anyways, thanks for responding.

I've been posting this statement on forums since 1997, and it originated in 914 chat rooms, and newsgroups:
"Its all in the combo"
