That aircon line isn't run correctly.
I would reclaim the refrigerant, relocate the line, and refill the refrigerant.
But I can do all that myself, so I'm more inclined to do it.
R134a is cheap here, under US$20 here in Texas.

Oh, maybe right hand drive is different.
Maybe a Brit or fellow Aussie can chime in.
That's definitely not correct for left hand drive.

I'm not sure what is worse here: that those flaps are made to disintegrate or that they are so horrendously placed in the car, so that it's absolutely painful to replace them.
I'm getting more and more of these foam bits out of the vents recently, so I'll problable have to bite the problem and take care of it sooner than later.
Makes me sick that apart from disassembling half of the interior, other methods are rather destructive.
Terrible design.

It's not THATbad.
Once you've done it you will ask yourself why you waited so long!

Really hope there is a way around this without messing with the AC system

Moxie - what car do you have? I have a 987.1 and am wondering if it is possible to get access to both flaps via the heater core.
Has anyone with a 987.1 repaired both flaps using either method?
The video of the behind the radio method is a 986 and it looks like they have more access because the dash vents come out with that center section. I a not sure the 987.1 provides that much access.
I have a 2008 987.1 standard Boxster with lots of foam in the vents and the air controls don't work well. I suspect both flaps are totally foam free.
Thanks.

I am in the middle of this doing the heater core method. While putting things beck together, the round piece that secures the top of the blend door fell into the duct work. It’s the one we cut to get at. I can’t see where it went. Wherever it is, it’s not impeding any of the doors. I put my phone down there while recording and just can’t see where it went.
I have a plan to secure the top of the blend door, but wondered if any one else did this and if they figured out where it went.
thanks

Corrupt here. Just do a search for endoscope camera for iPhone or Android based on what phone you use. I bought thus one. Haven't used it yet.

thanks mate. I’m assuming it’s as simple as taking it to an aircon place to degas the system, taking it home and removing the pipe to do the job, bolt it back up and then back to the aircon place to regas?
