What did you do to your 996 today?

After spending a while trying to get the battery charged up and the car started I finally did and took it on a 40-mile drive. While sitting at a red light I opened up the center console armrest lid to put my new insurance card away, noticed a key in there. My car came with two keys one of which only locked and unlocked the car. This random key I haven't noticed in 3 years of ownership also starts the car so now I don't have to waste hundreds on a second key. This was a nice surprise after a few bad days.

Drove from LA to Santa Barbara in the rain and when I got there the sky was blue. First time driving this one in the rain and it was actually pretty relaxing. My cabriolet felt too claustrophobic in bad weather.

At least they have cars in there. I visited Porsche of the Main Line this week and this was the view - one car and it wasn't for sale. Good luck getting an allocation right now and it must be a lesson in frustration to be a Porsche Sales person.

Two accomplishments yesterday.
1. I joined up and started to watch the Rennvision YouTubes on bore scoring. These videos are extremely informative and entertaining. Especially #3 which discusses possible causes of bore scoring. It is however like watching videos on prostate cancer....
2. I installed a nifty back up camera. It installs on the license plate holder and has a WiFi to your phone in the cockpit. I powered it off the back up light circuit and ran the wires through the license plate light. You could make it an easier install by powering the camera off the license plate light but then you would need to turn on the lights before backing up, and the system would be running continuously when the lights are on. There are even convenient holes in the engine room to feed the wires over to the light unit. Germans think of everything.
Update:
After driving with the back up camera for a bit I decided powering the system from the back up light is less than ideal. It turns out that if I shift out of reverse the wi-fi drops off line so the aft picture freezes. So yesterday I switched the power source to the rear fog lamp which at first glance seems much better. So before backing I just do the pull and twist with the light switch and the wi-fi powers up and stays up until I extinguish the rear fog lamp, which I can't imagine ever using, so the wi-fi is only on when I need it. This seems about as ideal as I can get it.
