Default Motul 15W50 engine oil. Anyone use this?

I'm going to try and stay away from Mobile on the 993tt due to all of the things I've read in the last year. That being said, has anyone had any experience with the Motul 6100 Synergie 15W50 oil before? It's actually only $6.50 a liter which isn't that bad as and liter is darn close to a quart if I remember correctly.

Thanks guys!!

I think their 8100 series is the top. The Motul rep is coming to our PCA DE this weekend. I will squeeze some info from him. I do know that both the 8100 x-cess and 8100 x-clean are both officially approved by Porsche

I didn't think 8100 came in 15W150 though. Please shoot me a PM or share with the forum what you hear!!

Enjoy your DE too (i'm jealous) it's still snowy and cold here in Chicago

I don't think you want to run 15/50 in your turbo with hydraulic lifters. I think you want 0/40.

Thanks for the response Geoffrey, but now I'm confused. All the research I did on here (for better or for worse) kept coming up with 15W50. Am I mistaken in thinking thats the correct weight oil for the tt? Read a bunch of posts about how the 0W40 wasn't good for our engines.

Thanks for your help!

15W and 20W for moderate climates.

I've also heard that 15-50 is the correct weight, and that Mobil 1 is using less of the compound that we require for long lifter wear (I forget what its called). I'm also ready for an oil change and would like to hear the correct answer for moderate climates, and to hear of an oil that has the correct quantity of that compound.

I'm probably wrong, sorry about that. Its been a long time since I worked with a stock engine with hydraulic lifters. As for oil issues, we have had camshaft issues with the Extended Performance Mobil 1 oil, but not with the latest blend. However, based on oil analysis results, we change the oil about every 10-12 hours on the racing engines. Also, I think fuel dilution of the oil is probably the root cause of some of the mechanical failures blamed on the new oil blends. This is particularly noticable on turbo engines when people run them extremely rich.

I also have been told 0/40 here in so cal. When I inquired about 15/50 my wrench said that would result in more lifter noise. So eclou...you'll have us on the edge of our seats here. Post back as soon as you have some info.

A couple of months ago , there was a real detailed thread about the Motul and other synthetics. I sell a lot of the 300V Motul in 5-50 & 15-50 weights to hard driving and track drivers. The normal Motul 6100 works well for for non gear heads.

Folks 0W and 5W is not the correct weight to use in a turbo air-cooled engine, unless you live in Alaska.

everything I have read indicates that a 5w40 oil is equivalent protection as a straight 40 weight oil at operating temperature, but will flow as quickly as a 5 weight oil when cold. Kevin are you saying that is bad?

The pistons and liner need more "weight" If you are running the lower oil weights you are risking wear.
Especially in the South where your ambient temps are higher.. I would be running no less than 15W in Houston. Look at it this way. A new set of Pistons and Liners are only $5,800.00

Quick Reply: Motul 15W50 engine oil. Anyone use this?
