Since BAT appears to be the measuring source let's watch how this one does: https://bringatrailer.com/listing/19...rera-s-3-6-14/
Red is not a preferred color but low mileage may offset that. Shifter has to go. IMHO. To seller: GLWA

If not for that last fact, this is a mid-to-high $80k car (before 5% fee) all day long.
Anymore want a 'pool' on where this will be sold for?
I'd venture to say $72k before auction site commission. But, more likely the reserve is higher than that; so RNM is a distinct possibility.

This is an interesting sample. Low mileage, color is mainstream (other than silver, my next choice is GR (like it alot)), and those hardbacks!! But then, the branded title...

Thanks for the feedback and I agree with the critiques.
The main purpose was to check in on recent pricing trend, and to do that I needed to control for the mix of cars trading, and I think I see pricing up 3-5% since March vs prior 6 months (could be driving season vs winter...)
As for using it as a tool to actually predict price, I agree with the limitations. The output is a product of the inputs, and so has the biases of online auction and car quality, Make adjustments from there - I think I see some nice examples there, but all cars will have many opinions. (the strength of using BaT is taking rate vs asking price).
As for how it prices an S, my write up wasn't detailed enough - you have to add a few numbers together to price an S. For example, the red example on BAT - this model sees that example in mid-70s to low-80s. I'll go on a limb and guess $82K.

The $36.5k opening ask is not unreasonable. I'd say anything in the low $30'ish k is acceptable.
A tell-tale sign of thoughtful ownership: the previous owner replaced the factory stereo w/ a Continental instead of some other modern-looking head units that are totally period incorrect.
At risk of pointing out the obvious, this is a rear drive car, not all wheel as the ad says.
Good luck. Keep us posted.

Well well well. Some no-nonsense guy already put in a $66.5+k bid; with 7 days to go. If this baby reaches north of $80k, I might put mine up for sale.

Yes, at $30k, it'd be a great deal.

my question for you guys is how much does the tiptronic take away from the “purity” of the driving experience on these air-cooled cars? I know it makes the car overall less desirable in terms of resale/collectibility but am I short changing my own experience with these cars by forgoing a manual?

Three Wheelin'
I've come across so much contradictory info on the value of tips here lately.
There is a 60k mile NB midnight blue tip available for $42k. Car presents beautifully and it looks like a decent amount of work has been done on it recently. I thought the car was fairly priced but read a thread on RL about a month ago that said any price north of $40k for any tip was insane.
Anyway, as for the person asking - yes, you undoubtedly get a less "pure" 993 experience in a tip. But many people are very happy with their tiptronic 993s. Some people can't operate a clutch owing to health issues. Some don't want to operate a heavy clutch in stop/go traffic, etc. I'd advise you to drive one example of each.

SOlid 993 engines alone will bring $20k these days.
Here is a case and point regarding BaT. Just using it as an example.
Nice rare 964 one of 326 america roadsters made for US market. These are selling in the $75k range for higher mile cars and well over 6 figures for clean low mile examples. This has had a full respray, 993 top in a wrong (bad) color. Has a protomotive turbo kit installed already showing issues, poorly recovered seats and countless needs to bring it to where it should be. Nice car but it sold for way too much IMO at $75k and will take at least $20k possibly $30k to bring it to where it should be. This IMO is one of the better cars I have seen sell on BaT and as I noted has more needs than the average car I see and I see so many BaT cars that are scary bad that present well on when for sale.
For the right price this is a good candidate for a restoration but they already have too much into it unless they take a loss or you are a DIYer with all the parts.

Wow that is great insight on the stereo! One owner is pretty neat....the biggest concern I have is the tip—

- Engine sound: same, you're not losing anything by going tip
- Gear shift responsiveness: I'll have to say, same again. The tip might a 4-speed, but the steering wheel shift buttons are instantaneous, while 993 manuals have deep clutches and long throws (haven't installed golden rod and/or SSK so no experience how much that would improve things). If you rank ease of manual shifting among car brands, Mazda and Honda would rank top while, sorry, the 993 will rank about last.
- Fun to drive: manual, hands down
- Transmission maintenance: tippy, hands down. These auto boxes are pretty much indestructible while clutch repairs are not uncommon among manuals.
- Prices of admission: tippy is worth about 1/3 less, which significantly lowers the cost of admission.
- Tippy resale: you buy cheap, so don't fret about selling cheap, if you ever sell.
- Collectibility: buy the car to drive, tip or manual, not to collect. If you're diligent w/ service intervals and maintenance, your car will sell itself.

Hot rod C4S, documented engine and trans rebuild this year, desirable mods like RS wheel carriers, PSS9s, Fister, goldenrod, RS interior and a ton of other good stuff. ~140k miles with a stack of receipts. Thinking in the 60k range, PM if interested.
