That's because you're a lightweight ![thumbsup](https://rennlist.com/forums/graemlins/bigok.gif)
How are those OEM Monroe shocks holding up for ya.![banghead](https://rennlist.com/forums/graemlins/banghead.gif)
For sure decent hardbacks pop up on the market occasionally, ie. every 6 months or so. When you factor in the $2k it cost to recover, add another $1,000 to properly paint the backs and refresh any worn out bits, one can easily spend $3k on top of the price of the seats. If you're looking for uncommon colors such as red, marble gray, tan, etc. and you want added features like the embossed crest, heat, etc., Waldemars option is a good one. Are they more expensive today than a year ago, yes; but they were probably a bit underpriced back then. Has one RLer commented on poor communications, yes. It seems the majority of folks who have had dealings with Waldemar have had little to no issues. Quality takes time. Just ask the folks waiting for their Singers. You know these "knock off, replica, aftermarket" 911's that no one really wants![Roll Eyes (Sarcastic)](https://rennlist.com/forums/images/smilies/rolleyes.gif)

thanks to both of you. I appreciate the sentiment. Those that know me on this board over the last 13 years, know that this is not about cost of the seats. And honestly it's not even about waiting. It's a feeling that I have in the gut of my stomach right now that I have lost my deposit money. If it was hundreds, not ideal but I could chalk it up to lesson learned. It's thousands.

I spoke to him. He's requiring a deposit of 50% with a quoted lead time of at least 16 weeks. He is now clearly stating that the deposit is non-refundable based on a prior experience with US customer (mrsullivan, I assume). Disappointing that the deposit is non-refundable even if he hasn't started the work or ordered material.
I'm sure he does great work and I really do want a set of these but based on the above, I'm going to get my seats converted to sport softbacks.

At what point is a deposit non-refundable? Should the customer just be able to ask for a refund at any time?
Maybe the way to go is progress payments of 25% each? I dunno.

He was clear that the 50% is non-refundable at anytime.
I'm in a business that uses leather and molded materials for production. Lead times aren't usually that long , but if they are in his case, and he needs to order everything at the time of Initial deposit, then this totally makes sense. Otherwise, I believe there's a better way to do this, especially now that demand has gonee up.

He is crazy and has priced himself out of the market. How many people in the world is going to shell out $7K for a car seat?

Sounds like he got a big head and then got greedy and arrogant to boot. Since I would imagine much of his business of late has come from Rennlist, he's in for a rude awakening and a tough life lesson.
$6,900 for replicas was always a hard sell. Now add long waits, terrible customer service, poor communication, and a pompous salesman and this one is clearly not a runner.
Also, can you imagine if the seats had a problem a few months down the road and you had to not only pull them out, pay to ship them back, wait for more months, and also deal with him? All for nearly 7 grand? No thanks.

I suggested that. 25% then another 25% when he starts the build and then the balance prior to shipping.

I worked in the seating industry for many years and his materials would not be anywhere close to $3,500. Not to mention, most of his materials are standard items with the exception of some unusual leather colors and the paint for the backs. 50% is ridiculous for standard colors...
