How many folks are upgrading the engine carrier when they move to firmer mounts? I rarely see that mentioned. I went to semisolid rennline mounts and heard horror stories from folks with broken engine carriers. I pulled mine, got it welded up, powder coated, and installed but am curious as to the number of failures people actually have after changing mounts. Anyone?
Addressing the steering rack leak using the excellent DIY guide and a core exchange from
Advantage Steering. Swapped in a new reservoir too.
Bought some nice RS engine mounts so did those whilst I was in the air.
Old rack is out, new one is in. Hopefully get the rest done in time for a weekend shakedown.
Glad to see you got the rack sorted with them. They're quick with the core refund too. Didn't need to chase them at all. Got an email within a day of delivery and refund next day.

My stock carrier was already in terrible shape before the RS mounts and literally on the verge of failure (bent, cracking and one side hanging on by a thread). PO had clapped out stock engine mounts that were neglected and not replaced for likely a long time. Led to the motor being thrown around excessively, leading to the carrier taking a beat down.
When I went to RS mounts, I upgraded to the Rennline tubular carrier (super beefy!) because my stock one needed more work than just the typical reinforcement. Also needed a bunch of other work to straighten and fix cracks.

Got it all back together today. I’d rate it an 8/10 job for difficulty. I have service records from Day 1 and it looks like this is the first steering rack change.
Main challenges were as expected - getting the rack back in protecting all the ends and splines, mating the rack back to the subframe with the new hardware without stripping anything, and working in the footwell getting the steering column back together.
Positives - I have used all new hardware (washers, bolts, boots) and I know that all the torque values are correct. There’s definitely a feeling of satisfaction doing it yourself.
So grateful for Rennlist knowledge base. Hoping I can contribute back sometime.

That's what I did on mine a few months back. Went with RS mounts and noticed a hairline crack in the carrier so upgraded to the Renniline tubular mount.
Boring but necessary: fixed the glove compartment that got stuck closed! Brief panic set in for a moment.
I never lock it, I futzed with the ****, then more along with the key, jiggling/turning/wiggling the **** (and key) to no avail. Took a breath then went to look at the venerable RL site for a tip, yes!!! Three screws at the bottom where the hinge is, removed the door assembly quite easily. Relief. And upon taking off the door's cover, I immediately noticed the simple fix: the nut on the **** assembly was loose (not unlike its owner), and thus wouldn't actuate the cam that pushed the lever to release the latch. Did the deal, and aligned the door so it closes cleanly and flush before tightening the screws. Boring yes, but imminently satisfying!
Finally got the motorsound mufflers on in exhchage of the dansk sports.
Now its more of a gentleman/neighbour friendly sound, but it roars and really opens up on the higher rpms.

I have these- LOVE THEM! When you get the car roaring at 5000 RPM it sings.
Finally got the motorsound mufflers on in exhchage of the dansk sports.
Now its more of a gentleman/neighbour friendly sound, but it roars and really opens up on the higher rpms.
