I'm replacing the 'Spoiler bearing' .. again. Last done in 2010. So they last exactly 13.5 years

13.5 years is great, i think i only got 8-9yrs before i had to do it again. It is a messy job for sure.

OrangeCurry and 996Scott, did you use a sealed bearing when you did the previous replacement, or an open bearing like the original?
#3741
In 2010 I used a sealed SKF - I think the one I removed was an open type and was the original. Nobody else had opened the casing prior to myself.

I'm not 100%, but pretty sure mine was sealed as well.

Too funny. I replaced mine in 2010 as well. It's still working fine but then again, I converted mine to manual up/dwon only so I hope this lengthens the life to forever...

I'm getting ready to do this too. I was planning to follow the DIY on Tore's webiste. Anything I should know in advance?

(Choose your glue and grease and make sure you have some before you start.)
Don't forget THE BLANKET.
Then follow the guide......
The two plastic halves of the gear housing have an interlocking seam - by that I mean one half has a groove in the plastic edge, and the other half protrudes (all the way around) into that groove.
So you ain't trying to cut through the join - you are trying to separate it. From factory, I had to put in a fat flat-bladed screwdriver and work my way all around the join... it was tricky, but it gave way eventually. My advice is NOT to use too much pulling-apart/shearing force, but instead put in a gentler 'separating force' all the way around the join..... if you follow me.
THE BLANKET.... got that?
Finally - you have got that BLANKET in place?
