You have to appreciate the mastery of anyone who can design (notice I did not use the word "engineer") a suspension where the the fender could possibly take off a piece of the wheel lip.

I bet that car does burnouts real good.

The 911 is a poor choice for burnouts because the resulting wheel-hop - even if you're running solid or ss motor mounts - is terrible, which is true of many cars with the engine over the driven wheels.

Line locks are essential for long, controlled burnouts - at least for those where the goal is to get the tires hot rather than to light the brakes on fire. Brake-stands - a burnout with the brakes applied - are a great way to ruin a car and possibly impress girls who still won't sleep with you.

You would never catch me doing burnouts in my RSR.......

.... unless your 993 can also do the 1/4 mile in sub 12s.

Good thread.

I joined up because I've been binge watching supercar and cars leaving car meet videos on YouTube. Every time I see a Porsche driver try to do a burnout as they leave the meet and barely even spin the wheels I can imagine just how disappointed the owner is. And it's not for lack of trying.

People in this thread say they dont want to and wouldn't try, "because it's a scalpel" made me chuckle. Because all the blokes in the vids were certainly trying hard, and if Porsches spun up well they'd be lecturing us on how its a great feature of the car. Typical "Oh I didn't want that anyway" scenario.

The cranky replies in this thread just kind of back that impression up. I googled why Porsches can't spin the wheels and ended up here. Id be pretty sore if I'd dropped $200k and couldn't get a little sideways too!

Troll alert! The reason 911’s don’t typically break loose is one of the reasons they’ve done so well in racing for so long. But, anyone with skill beyond pushing the gas pedal down can break one loose. Google Ruf Yellowbird + Nurburgring.

rear engine is all about traction. Weight over the rear wheels.
the idea of a good car is to actually get the power down.

This is why AWD is in the 918 spyder.

Look at 997 turbos and 991 turbos with their AWD smoke cars at the drag strip with their little 6 cylinder motors....

You can dump the clutch and spin or donut any GT3 or GT2 911.

But it is a rookie move.

Porshe is all about corner speed and exit speed. That is most likely a foreign language to a person looking to do "burnouts"......

I wont disparage burnouts, they certainly look cool...

... But ...

Once you realize ANY car can do a burnout, its not so cool anymore... I used to do burnouts in my dads 1978 6cyl olds that made 131hp.
If your goal is to do burnouts, buy cheap, narrow tires (dryrotted old ones work well), overinflate them, drop the clutch and watch the pretty smoke. If it still wont light em up, add a little bleach and you can spin them by hand...

Its all about proper equipment to the task...

I know right, every car I've owned has been able to do a burnout!

Except any of the Porsches out of the hundreds I've seen in compilations on YouTube.

you must be searching white trash driving in youtube if you are looking for burnout videos.

Generally you see videos of idiots doing burnouts and leaving parking lots only to crash into other cars. It is hard to find porsche drivers looking to do the same.

Thats a little judgmental mate. I had an sti for years, and dumping the clutch in that was a no-no. Now that im in a v8 rwd i love giving it a bit of gas when im not around anyone else. You can only do so many track days and windy roads in an AWD before corner exit speed gets dull and you wish it would just spin up and get sideways when you want it to. The TC button I have lets me be all about that putting power down life.

Dont tell me you scream around corners exiting with scalpel like precision at traffic lights on your daily commute!

Those supercar compliations of morons driving their supercar from shows and trying to burn out or go sideways is a testament of those whos only talent behind the wheel of a car is the abilty to write the cheque for it.

Anybody worth their shoe in driving is not leaving car shows like an idiot.

When i was younger i too used to showboat like an idiot and l now look back on it knowing i was a total douche bag.
