seats showcase: Recaro OEM hardback bucket sport shells- RS/ Speedster/ GT1/ GT2, etc
At the moment I have 445 photos on my computer of these ^^ factory racing seats.
Nothing productive may ever result from posting all those pics (read: do NOT encourage me ). However, enthusiasts often seek me to locate these seats for them to buy. Plus, yesterday a RLer posted that he likes to see them in lightweight cars instead of adjustable 993 Recaro hardback sports seats. So, to be a functioning addict, maybe timing's good for listing current auctions to help RLers find rare seats. (I'll also include a couple of Recaro A8 listings, as they've been popular on RL recently.) Please use this thread to post links to RS / Speedster Recaro OEM hardback bucket racing shells for sale, or share your own pics here if you need an RS accountability group :typing: "RS" = Recovering Seat-a-holics ;) |
This thread will make me cry.

With regards to replicas, one has to perform due diligence before possibly purchasing, as the safety standards may not be as stringent as those required for factory-installed seats.

Back to OEM Porsche / Recaro seats --
With this auction, though, I may be a day late & a dollar short... This listing closed yesterday, but if a buyer was a dollar short, then maybe the seller will re-list: EBay.de seller nesrin20's "2 Recaro Schalensitze Porsche 911 964 993 RS Speedster Sitze Sportsitze Turbo S." outstanding pics once again curve. Nice find.
I would be interested to know what the weight savings are VS a set of OE sport seats. Must be maaaahooosive I love my PP's |
I have owned factory Recaro 993/964 RS seats and Recaro Profi XL seats from Recaro and have compared them to factory 964 Recaro Speedster seats, Recaro Pole Position and SPG seats, all of which are similar in appearance.
Here are differences I note: 1. 964 Speedster seats have a trampoline like rubber spring under the main cushion and no crotch belt pass through hole, although there is a cut out for one in the velour lining inside the seat. There is a hole in the main cushion for a crotch belt too, but useless. 2. RS seats look same as Speedster seats but have a pad under the main cushion with a hole in it that allows pass through of a crotch belt. The fiberglass hole's edge for the belt is covered with basket weave snap mold like around the rear quarter window on early 911. The pad is removable allowing the driver to sit deeper in the seat if desired for headroom or support. 3. The SPG is the narrowest seat and the Profi XL and Pole are both wider by 35 mm for a bigger driver. A factory RS seat is approximately 20 mm wider than an SPG and 15 mm narrower than an XL or Pole. 4. Because of the intermediate width of the RS seat, the side plates have to be sourced from Porsche. Recaro make 2 separate side plates kits for either the SPG or XL/Pole. 5. The factory RS/Speedster seats have a unique pattern of stiffening ribs on the seat shell. |
They look like generic race seats. Hell glue a porsche crest on any sparco, omp, "insert name here" race seat and you've essentially got the same thing for thousands less. Flame away.

I was originally planning to post only factory Recaro racing shell seats here, but added the replicas above once I realized they might help someone else (& their budget) out. Even replicas are so rare themselves that I bet some reading this thread are seeing them for the 1st time. I was lucky to find a good deal on what was the 'holy grail' to me - OEM Porsche Recaro Speedster hardback bucket seats - but it took more patience, research, & time than I preferred. The ideal goal here's to shorten the process for those inspired to get OEM &/or period-correct, but needing a good value. Nothing wrong with chasing the dream of finding OEM seats like these, if you or friends find them for thousands less... Yup, very similar. The backs were painted gray some years ago and unfortunately the Recaro date stickers were painted over. They also have the factory aluminum side mounts and (steel) sliders.
Frankly they're problematic seats to have in the car -- passengers don't really like them, and it is very easy to damage the bolsters getting in and out. So you end up saying to your friends, "please be careful of those bolsters," which is pretty lame. |
Makes sense ^^
Bolster practicality may benefit from vertical entry, versus ducking under a roof. :) A good excuse to keep her topless... http://imageshack.com/a/img62/43/2tw5.jpg http://imageshack.com/a/img31/8990/5nef.jpg |

If this thread is to become a resource for future buyers of some very expensive seats, it should be noted that the GenI Recaro A8 seats (as shown above) have serious design flaws with the lower cushion side supports. They break. They always break (unless you don't drive your car)....
Recaro issued the GenII with an improved/simplified bolster design that eliminated the previous issue by deleting the plastic side supports. Here are some pics of the GenII A8's: Attachment 1237172 Attachment 1237173 Attachment 1237174 |

Speaking of lightweight seats, Pole Positions rock. Great value, quality, & looks. Bob-- You simply making an appearance on this thread is a "full circle" event for me: of the dozens of threads about these OEM seats that I've bookmarked through the years, your posts of input & experience are often foundational throughout those forums. Case in point: photos you've posted or commented on are many of the 445 Porsche racing shell pics I've saved to my hard drive. In short, I have you to blame ;) - er, thank - for my addiction! Yep. My old seats. They started out as pretty nice original Speedster seats that I sold to Mark. Being Mark, he had to have them a perfect match and Speedsters didn't come in classic grey so after paying me a bunch for the seats, he sent them to probably the best shop in the country- Autoweave - and spent another fortune redoing them. After all that, he sold them back to me and that's when I advertised them at $6500. A couple months later, he called and had to have them back and then sold the whole car to corrdobrit.

Bob-- Agreed, RLer dromicnorris (Mark) was a perfectionist about his 993 & its seats.
What he wrote about 'em as his "1995 993, 23,000 mls, mint" for sale ad was overcome by seat awe & Pole Position/SPG questions:

Yes, but the best part (after the 90 lbs weight savings) is that they hold you in the car so much better so that you can grasp the steering wheel with a much lighter grip and steer the car. Plus they are so much more comfortable than the stock power seats.

They have a special Porsche part number, are a different shape and design from Pole Positions, have a very unique under cushion spring/strap support for the cushions. They also have beautiful perforated leather alternating color cushions and full leather for the seats. PP's cost hundreds of dollars, these are $5,000 used before restoration. PP's make for wonderful seats though.

My solution to problem for a full figured guy like me: Recaro Profi XL's reupholstered in Nappa leather by Autobahn Interiors with early 911 houndstooth fabric for center cushions. Very comfortable and secure for 250 pounder.

Bob ^^ Good idea!
Speaking of reupholstering: Recaro Pole Positions recovered like Porsche RS / Speedster hardback sport bucket seats, with an embossed crest. They sold in London for ~£2,000 GBP (~$3,300 USD). From the seller's eBay listing:

In addition they are embossed with the Porsche crest at the centre of the upper seat. These really are well made, by craftsman, by hand. The best quality leather work you will find anywhere, makes any car feel that more special. The seats are in very good condition as they are only a year or so old, I can see no obvious marks, tears or scuffing. They have been well looked after by myself and kept clean and protected as instructed by Southbound. The seats also come with Southbounds own custom side mounts and Recaro runners, all you need to fit is to swap over seat belt fasteners and bolt in. These seat will fit most air cooled 911's and 944's, 924's and 968's. They may also fit other models. These seats will cost over £3000 if custom built for you by Southbound. I`m very happy with the seats. The just replaced my SPG`s, but - i`m seating to high. Compared to the SPG`s, we talk about 5cm... that`s a lot. At the moment, i drive without the cushion... I`ll try to get a thinner cushion. Curr back-cushion is about 5.8cm thick - i like one with just one centimeter... http://www.elferteam.de/uploads/mont...1395324477.jpg http://www.elferteam.de/uploads/mont...1395324390.jpg http://www.elferteam.de/uploads/mont...1395324385.jpg http://www.elferteam.de/uploads/mont...1395324474.jpg |

@p-track
quality seems to be very good. The details (stiching for example) are perfekt. The only thing is the seat-height... Costs: The seats are not directly from hahn, but my mechanic has his workshop only 10km from hahn away and they are buddies... I got the seats from my mechanic plus a new 964 RS suspension on top, new carpets, new RS-rear glas... Round about, i think the seats were at round about 1k€ per seat... |

This thread makes me :grr:
Back in 1996 I had 2 sets or original RS seats out of a couple RSCS's that were run in Porsche Cup in Australia. I paid less than $1500 for both pairs. They were essentially brand new as they were pulled from the car and replaced with proper CF race seats. I put one pair in a car I had and kept the others in storage. I ended up selling the car, pulling the seats out and sold both pair for $1000 each..... To think if I had only kept them I could have retired :crying: |

Hey,
Selling my Recaro A8s Version 2s. Back story: I bought a set of Recaro A8s. One seat was a Version 2 and the other was a Version 1. To convert the Version 1 into a V2 I had to buy a spare Recaro SRD seat and swap the bottom and replace the bottom of the V1 to turn it into a V2. After I finished that little project, I got the seat reupholstered at a shop called New Image Interior and got them to reupholster the seats in Black leather and White Recaro Stitching. One seat was back was previously painted Silver and I left it like that and one is factory Black. My asking price is $3800 obo. You guy's know how rare these seats are. ICONS USED FOR THE RUF YELLOWBIRD OR AUDI RS 2 FULL BLACK LEATHER SEAT RUNNER FOR PORSCHE 2 SEATS = 1 SET LAST PRODUCTION YEAR PRICE : 5500 EURO" ~$7,400 USD 1. I've never seen a picture of a set of A8s in Yellowbird. And while I've seen pictures of a RS2 with A8s, I'm pretty sure they came stock with different Recaro seats. Maybe A8s were optional? 2. I don't think these could have possible been the last production year as they have the earlier (easily cracked) series 1 bases before they changed to the SRD base. 3. Damn. These have gotten expensive. |
Are 993 Clubsport seats just Recaro SPGs like the 964 N/GT? Does anyone have the PET for these?

Border brand seats may be an option for some.
As seen on Macca's car, & recently ordered by Kiwi Carguy:

Border CF backed SP5 recaro style bucket seats trimmed in classic grey leather with contrast silver grey stitching including generic slider system and side brackets. These were relatively cheap and they are suited to a slightly larger driver than the Recaro PP and their kin, good for someone up to 6'2" and100kg (220lb). Slightly wider base while remaining fairly upright and with a shoulder forward driving postion. I was very lucky with these, when I got into them they felt like a glove with my hands, seat and shoulders being optimally positioned. Possibly just lucky. Very light weighing 10kg less including brackets and sliders than my previous sport seats they were good for a afir weight saving too. Cheap at 1300 usd landed airfeight (in full standard black leather), they are one of the better quality seats available of their type weighing 7.3kg seats only with real CF shell. The feel rock solid firm with little/no flex when installed. Ridged and strong the workmanship is at least 8/10. You can order suede type inserts (which I will be doing shortly in grey). Havent figured out how to mount my extingusher and bracket yet (saving a further 3kg+!). Border I believe also make a line called "bride" used in the Jap tuner circles. They are a Taiwanese company and excellent to deal with (Chloe their sales girl has excellent english and is very helpful). They make an FIA approved SP4 (slighy smaller base) for an extra 2-300usd. You sit nice and snug in these seats, they give extra feedback form the engine and transmission and you honestly feel like drivig faster in them - the car just seems so much more "chuckable"! I loved the two 35 minute stints I did in them. The only thing I would say is that for trips of 1 hour plus they could become less comfortable given they dont have lumber supports build in like comfort seats. They are also a little harder to get in and out of! Enjoy the pics. https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...d79dd9dfd8.jpg https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...b2b6496f62.jpg https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...7aa344936b.jpg

So now that I have the seats in I thought I'd post up my thoughts on them. I originally bought these seats because Macca has them in his 993 so I have seen them in the flesh, sat in them, know the finish etc and they were well priced. The other reason is that they are period correct for the car. Overall the experience was good. Dealing with Border was a little difficult at times due to the language differences etc and I honestly wasn't entirely sure I was going to get what I had ordered until I had opened the boxes despite trying very hard to be as clear as possible. Thankfully I did! For example in the end I was only charged for one set of suede inserts instead of two as they thought I only wanted them for one seat?! So be really clear with your communications, I even provided photoshopped pictures with arrows etc! For the price they are great seats. Mine are not "flawless" and below is pics of a few "blemishes" although you would only spot them if you were looking for imperfections. 1) The carbon weave in the odd place has moved so the thread isn't straight. Again you probably wouldn't notice this unless you had the seats out and inspecting them. 2) There is one small section around 10-15mm where the stitching isn't tight. 3) The stitching where your shoulder blades are appears to be quite tight and "pulling". I emailed Border and this was their response.... Dear James, It is normal, don’t worry :) Other than that they look great. The items above would only bother you if you are a Virgo :p That is the only downside of buying offshore that it is very difficult for the company to provide a resolution if something isn't right. Now Macca paid circa $1800 for his a few years back. Since then they have increased the cost of the seats and the sliders and rails are now extra too. My seats cost in total $2972.05 NZD all up including gst, customs, freight etc. That was for two seats, rails, sliders and a second set of suede inserts. Gst, customs, duty etc was $375.44 So a lot more than Macca paid and I'd had hoped to have more left over from my sports seat sale to fund some more mods. Some of this would have been due to the exchange rate as well. Overall they are a great seat and look good in the car. I've shed some weight and the interior looks "new" again. The seats will also provide me with more support than the Sport Seats Sofas. https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...059278addf.png https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...1d1e018d12.jpg https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...70580eb6f5.jpg https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...90ee1de13a.jpg https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...5392428287.jpg https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...a4811946ee.jpg https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...fb69fb2fea.jpg

James. Looks good. If any consolation my CF weave is a bit squiffy around the same spot. I looked at a set of Recaro PP in CF (rare) in a race car at Rennsport Motorsport Weekend in Sydney last may and it seemed teh CF was off in places too. I think its pretty hard to use single sheets of CF with shapes like this without nip and tuck and some movement of the fabric during the wet lay process. The stitching you show left and right on the fronts where you back goes is the same as mine. Its not as obvious on mine because they classic grey. I thought the leather looked stressed there and would tear eventually but after 3 years, 20,000km and lots of track and road work they look exactly the same as they did when delivered in that area so it must just be the way they finish off the stitching there (tension for strength and tying off etc). They arent perfect but they are very light, comfortable especially for a taller driver, have the benefit of being sized to suit a larger waist/ass not an Italian midget racing driver like the Recaro PPs and at least they were good value back at the time I ordered them when the sliders and side mounts were included in the price. I did pay extra for some alacantera inserts to be made (slightly thicker quab) and shipped a few months after receiving the seats. Im gald I did that as I have the original inserts sitting new as spares and the alcantara ones have worn well and been comfy. At 3000 NZD they are "fair value" I think (by way of contrast black leather Recaro PPs, with side mounts and sliders landed would probably be over 5K with GST etc. However I concede they arent the bargain they were when I bought them...

Ahh interesting I didn't realise you got the inserts after. I agree with the CF laying and it didn't bother me. Just trying to give a fair evaluation of them for anyone reading and considering buying. Honestly you only really notice when they are out of the car. Funny your comments about fit as I am a "medium" sized guy and mine fight from on me, even Annette commented on the size/fit. Its extremely painful for me to do this but I have decided to part with my set of OEM 964RS/993RS Seats. I have two sets (other set I am keeping) and this set has been stored in my attic out of the car since 1999. These were purchased new directly through Porsche parts and were installed in my 3.8 liter M491 car. Back in 1997 these seats were ~$10k from the dealer. They are correct for the 964RS or 993RS, they look the same as the 964 Speedster seats, however they do not have the trampoline bases those seats have. The leather is in perfect shape, they have maybe 5,000 miles of seat time on them. They were originally all black center cushions however when they were removed a well known dealer (who shall remain nameless, still mad...) lost the lower cushions, so I no longer have the OEM perforated leather cushions. I do have a set of Recaro cushions but to be perfect they need to be covered in the perforated leather to match the upper cushions. The stickers are also not present on the bottoms of the seats, for whatever reason they were removed when the seats were installed. There are some minor scratches on the backrests from years of storage. I would call the seats a 8/10 for condition. Due to the few issues mentioned above I am selling the seats for $6k USD, I know what a pristine set brings so these are a great deal and allows someone to paint the backs to match their car and do the center cushions in whatever material/color them wish. Price- $6k USD + Paypal fees + actual shipping costs https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...e8a7cc079f.jpg https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...a8c7d30c3b.jpg https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...a46b205680.jpg https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...d56c27c9f1.jpg |

The study ultimately resulted in the “A8,” with which the method was first applied in series. The model, which was named after the autobahn A8 leading to Kirchheim/Teck, featured an attractive design. It was the world’s first seat with a backrest made of fiberglass-reinforced plastic. What made it special: The shell was self-supporting and produced using injection molding. Only the backrest mounting support and adjusters as well as the connection to the seat rail were made of metal. RECARO offered customers the option of personalizing the design of the seat: The backrest and seat could be ordered in Metallic Silver or understated Black. The upholstery was available in Black-Grey, Black-Color, fabric, or leather. If the right choice was still not found among this large variety, custom paint jobs and upholsteries could also be chosen. In this way it also came to pass that an “A8” in Pink-Violet was exhibited for the premiere of seat at the RECARO booth at the IAA 1989. The cover typical for the seat with the RECARO logo on the backrest was more of a last resort: The backrest unlocking device was originally slated to be attached at this point, but this idea did not prevail. Even today, the “A8” is a coveted collector’s item: Well-maintained seats often sell for more than 1,000 euros each. https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...2a5b5a4461.jpg |

________________________________________________________________________ Today a RLer told me he's tempted to sell his OEM 993 hardback sports seats for RS / Speedster seats. A half-way solution: Ebay.de's "1 x Recaro Schalensitz für Porsche 964 RS und 911 RSR Sportsitz Leder" FS by 'porschefreunde-baden-baden' for €4,999 (~$5,500 USD); item #271828161719:

Hey thats me!
I have been pondering that for a bit now.
I saw that speed yellow no moon roof 993 RS at the porsche corral Laguna Seca 2010 with matter cage and the 993 rs seats painted to match…amazing! Saw your 993 speedster with a 964 speedster and a raw 550a spyder out side the vip tent. What a weekend that was. I would have a hard time parting with the correct seats to my car. Bless the guy who ordered my car right. PTS, sport seats, mo30/ and with limited slip and on a narrow body C4! Wish we could have hooked up at cars and coffee to chat Jager! Best regards, Dustin |

They seem like a great solution for anyone interested in RS/Speedster/GT1/GT2 or Pole Position seats, with a bonus: adjustable seatbacks! Anyone else familiar with them or seen them in a 993? http://www.northamericanmotoring.com...ck-photo-1.jpg or http://www.quattroworld.com/wp-conte.../05/32A-36.jpg If I only had a small fortune to devote to the slippery slope! |

My Recaro Profi XL seats finally installed and I have driven with them.
Tall sides make them difficult to get in an out of for me. I must say though, for a guy of my corpulent stature, these seats are MUCH more comfortable and supportive than my factory RS seats were. Not only are they wider, but a major reason for the improved comfort (and safety) is that the shoulder belts don't come in below my shoulders as they do with Recaro Pole or factory RS seat. 51 pounds lighter than stock, standard seats. Mounting hardware is from the Recaro catalog. https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...350094b457.jpg |
thank you!!!
Older pics before the glass out respray, head lamp washers were welded up!
Thanks for Posting Jager :) |
There is a lone Recaro A8 for sale on Fleabay: linked here

Possible additional source: the 968 CS had the same seats as the 964 RS, with a 944 part number. Same seat, different label. Had both, zero difference.

Take a look at Vivid Racing for some prices. The price depends on the upholstering material, but leather ones are north of $2k per seat (probably closer to $2.5k each).

Hi Guys,
Im in need of a little help. About 10 years ago i bought a pair of 968 CS cloth seats with the trampoline from a customer here in Australia. The customer converted his CS to a 2+2 with leather standard seats. Now 2 owners on the now owner wished to purchase the seats back from to to complete his CS back to standard. What is a fair price for them. Rated at 7.5-8 out of 10. Here is a picture Regards Sean |

The post may not make much sense, since it's snatched from earlier pages & doesn't add content to discussion. Those spam posts have nothing to do with the "cut & pasted" text; it's all about adding sneaky imbedded images 1 pixel by 1 pixel. Invisible to our eye, they allow the website that hosts the image to record IP addresses of all of us that click on the thread. (Sometimes IP address can even be correlated with a physical address & general computer set-up info.) Potentially nefarious. Good if RL owner IB can prevent them before we ever see them. The upside: after posts are reported by clicking on the 'Report Post' icon (https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...9bd110a848.gif) mods usually remove them promptly. So, what was post #86 disappeared. Scott's original post before cghng's unscrupulous copying, followed by reponses:

EBay's "2 Sportsitze Recaro A8 Leder Alcantara neu bezogen Tuning Audi Rs2 Porsche" FS by autopolsterei_de, item #252090205633.
Three sets of upholstered Recaro A8 seats, each pair €3,499 (~$4k USD). That's the price for these in leather &/or alcantara, but final cost will vary based on customers' specific request for paint & leather colors, material, deviated stitching, special embroidery, seam piping, etc. Sliders not included.

Mystery Recaro Porsche Race Buckets
Hey folks,
So I stumbled upon an odd "pair" of Porsche factory race seats made by Recaro: https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...ab28f233ba.jpg Both seats and brackets. Seat A on the left. Seat B on the right. I firmly believe both seats were made for Porsche, as one seat (Seat A) has the iconic spider-web reinforcements on fiberglass shell that match 964 buckets made for Porsche. This seat has its Recaro label on it still but appears to be missing its Porsche part label. The second seat (Seat B) doesn't have the spider-web reinforcement and has the typical SPG reinforcement pattern, but it has this odd riveted reinforcement and brace. Seat B has Recaro, F.I.A., and Porsche factory labels. https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...b4a91df16d.jpg Seat A Front https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...160a352b20.jpg Seat A Back https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...2318c9f83b.jpg Seat A Label https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...9c85d33b4a.jpg Seat B Front https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...099d4e698d.jpg Seat B Back https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...1cc0b6d86d.jpg Seat B Recaro and F.I.A. labels https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...23b948ff57.jpg Seat B Porsche factory label with 964 part number. So what are these seats from? The guy I bought them from had no clue. I think Seat A is from a 964 RS Cup car like this one: https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...43984621d8.jpg Seat B with the funky riveted bracket really puzzles me. It does have a 964 part number on it, so I know it is Porsche factory legit. Its December 1995 build date makes me wonder whether it was for a 964 or 993 race car. It's certainly dated too late to be either a 944 Turbo Cup or 968 Turbo S seat. Thoughts are welcome! P.S. I will be selling these seats once I figure out what I have. They are located in the SF Bay Area, so if you're coming to RRV we might be able to coordinate an in-person inspection. P.P.S. Interestingly neither seat has webbing under the bottom cushion. The cushion is glued to the shell. These are most definitely racing seats. |

Both factory racing seats, but from slightly different vintages. |

Recaro Pole Position seats require a special bracket to fit (in a 993) plus if you want them to be "adjustable" rather than fixed they require an additional device (that raises them up a bit?). Correct me if I'm wrong.
But the RS Speedster, 993 RS, GT2 seats above will fit in standard and come adjustable (unless someone removed the adjustability mechanics)- Is that true? Also, what kind of seats are these highly bolstered ones in a 959? https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...befea95519.jpg |

Not all 959s had sport seats, mind you. And at least one 959 was delivered with the seats showcased in this thread. |

All the Recaro shell bucket seats, whether Porsche or Recaro branded, have side plates bolted to a set of sliders under the side plates for seat position adjustment. Porsche use the manual sliders from the early Porsche 928 for the Recaro shell seats used in the RS type street cars. These 928 sliders have a lever on one side that is lifted in rotation to unlock and lock the seat like most manual operated seat cars have. For race use, Porsche use the Recaro slider with a transverse bar mounted across the front of the seat to lock and unlock it as shown below. By perhaps drilling some holes (depends on application) either slider can be used with any Recaro shell seat. https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...c1098fe15f.jpg |
There are some great pics in this thread. I now have new desires I did not have 10 minutes ago. Thanks!

My shoulders are too wide for any of the OEM Recaro seats. After countless hours of searching I found the Sparco EVO2's (older version) fit my body the best. While I am not in love with the seat material I could not be happier with the comfort of the seats. I use to snub the sport shells now I know they are the best option once you find ones that fit you. They totally transformed the driving experience and how connected I feel to the car. Getting in and out is easy once you get use to it.
I plan to have them recovered like this. Not 100% sold on the diamond stitching but I love the leather/alcantera combo. |

Like to think this ad's for a set of seats, but item's description states 1 x seat & shows a single seat in each photo.
Title mixes "seat" & "seats" :banghead: "Recaro Porsche Seat 911 993 964 RS Speedster seats bucket seats" on ebay-kleinanzeigen.de for €9,500 (~$10,800 USD):

They are also the same as the 964RS seats but they do have the trampoline bottoms that were reserved for the Speedster or 993RS, but the shells, upholstery, etc are the same. These have the tricolor grey inserts and the shells are painted Guards Red. They are complete with brackets and sliders and are bolt in ready for any 964 or 993. They show only the slightest of wear/patina on the lower cushions and almost no wear on the bolsters. There are some very light scratches on the bottom paint on the passenger seat, not visible when the seats are installed. The stickers are not present as they were removed when the shells were painted. They have ~5k miles of use in one of my 964's. These seats VERY rarely come up for sale and very rarely in such original, pristine condition. Seat Part # 964.521.501.00 (2) Black Full leather Center Backrest Part # 964.521.319.00 Color Code: CJL-Dark Grey/Pearl Grey Bottom Cushion Part # 964.521.323.00 Color Code CJX-Light Grey/Dark Grey The seats also come with the OEM adapters. The seats are slightly narrower than Recaro Pole Positions, so it’s important to get the OEM adapters so they mount to the OEM seat rails (included). Adapter Part # 964.521.819.01 and 964.521.820.01 I fully recognize to the majority of people a set of Recaro Pole Positions are a MUCH better deal (I have a set myself) BUT if you have a 964RS, Speedster, 993RS, 993 GT2, etc. etc. and need the original seats, this is your opportunity. $10,000 USD + $300 shipping CONUS. Actual shipping costs for International shipping. The seats are located in Bellevue, WA. I will ship them via Fed-Ex ground insured for the full value and have them professionally packed. https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...183c4566e4.jpg https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...d03ce483d6.jpg https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...2de1cb5a83.jpg https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...0ec91d65cc.jpg https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...ee48f1c634.jpg https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...6f7d6c5227.jpg https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...5e279bf62e.jpg https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...d02684c085.jpg https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...e4a10d6ef2.jpg https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...3be03c8f9d.jpg https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...608fc94a1d.jpg https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...1f1d1f25b3.jpg https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...4a46d0fc09.jpg

Rear seat delete has leatherette covering on doors rather than painted cashmere as many others are. Removed from a 993 cabriolet however shelf may also fit a coupe. I have a question about the RS seats for all you RS and Speedster enthusiasts:
Currently at Ninemeister our work in progress includes two 9m64RS, a 9m93GT2 and a 9m93RSR, all of which we would prefer to finish with a pair of fixed back RS seats but are stuck with either the narrower SPG or wider Pole Position. Neither are ideal, hence I am now giving serious consideration to manufacturing an FIA approved, carbon fibre 9m RS seat. The 9mRS seat will be visually identical to the RS seat but manufactured with a high quality carbon fibre shell with similar fire-proof cloth or black leather options. The seat belt holes will be trimmed with similar plastic ferrules, as per the original RS seats. As part of the production process we plan to submit samples of the carbon back for sled testing to achieve FIA approval, a process that our manufacturer has done many times before and is confident of passing. At the moment the pricing is likely to be in the region of £2195 per seat in cloth and £2595 in black leather with the FIA approval, excluding taxes and shipping. We will be pricing up the runner and side bracket additions shortly. So, the question I have is would anybody be interested in having these for their 964 or 993 projects and should I start my own thread with an exclusive Rennlist Group Buy? Answers on a postcard please to...... |
now that sounds like a good plan, let me know when you have a fully inclusive price.

Answers on a postcard please to...... Alternatively for the OEM-like show cars there is a guy in Germany cranking out 993 hardback sport seats with or without carbon fiber backs at about $5500 USD for a pair. I believe that's including shipping, but I could be wrong. Again I'd love to see more high quality aftermarket options out there. Perhaps with greater production numbers the unit price could come down further? |

I am all for more OEM-like aftermarket solutions for the 964/993 community, but they have to be priced reasonably. I fear at the prices that you've quoted (without taxes, shipping, runners, or brackets included), you are going to have a very limited audience. For half the cost one could buy a new set of Recaro-brand FIA certified Pole Position seats, which look pretty good in these cars.

Yes, start your own thread. This one is so long and cluttered, it won't reach the most customers
Apologies to Jaeger for the temporary hi-jack. |
Why do the seat backs look different between some seats? Some have an extra set of X ribs across where your kidneys are. See below pics (from this thread) for example. Any ideas? Does it indicate replica vs original Porsche seats?
http://imageshack.com/a/img18/5642/4x3h.jpg http://imageshack.com/a/img801/7866/hhq1.jpg |
My old 993 RS did not have the extra cross bar in the back of the seats.
https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...68b8cd29ef.jpg |
Perhaps street vs race intended use? With more reinforcements for the race version.
|
Replica vs Genuine. Even the photos from the first page of the grey backed buckets are very suspect. metal crest on the back of seat looks out of place. I would not buy a set of these seats at such a high price without the trampoline/recaro stamp/correct shell and brackets.
|
I have the genuine 964 RS seats and they have the extra X bracing. Part number 964.521.003.66 / 964.521.004.66.
964 Speedster seats are : 964.521.003.70 / 964.521.004.70 Found this info at: http://www.renn-list.com/Question-on..._10731883.html "There are two different patterns, both are original Porsche. The seats with one less "X" worth of bracing are known as Speedster seats (which I own in my 968) and have a trampoline suspension system under the lower cushion and lack the 5th belt hole for a harness. These came in the 964 Speedster and 993RS. The seats with the extra "X" are 964RS seats and have the 5th belt hole but no trampoline system underneath. These seats are generally considered a little more "hardcore" and less comfortable. Personally I prefer the Speedster seats from an appearance standpoint in that they are a little less busy looking compared to the 964RS while not being as plain as standard Pole Position seats that you can buy new today. They are also slightly more comfortable with the trampoline system and some people have said they are a hair wider than 964RS seats. " |
Example of extra X bracing on RS seats, offered by a (former) 993 Forum RLer, no affiliation: "FS: 993 Carrera RS/CS Sport Seat:"

993 Carrera RS/CS hardshell sport seat for sale. This is only ONE seat, which I used on the driver's side. I had the shell painted Porsche black, and it is upholstered with its original black leather. The leather is supple and has no tears, scuffs, or marks. It has all new correct Porsche factory mounting hardware, which costs $1,500 alone. It is a straight bolt-in replacement for the stock driver's seat. This seat is very similar to the Recaro pole position in size and support. You will feel much more connected with the chassis and the road with this seat, and I found it to be very comfortable even on long trips of four hours or more. I prefer it to my stock seat. And to my eyes, it looked great in a black interior, even though the driver and passenger seats were not matching. And if it really bothers you, single seats do come up for sale every now and then, often on European Ebay, so you could buy a second single and have a pair for much less than purchasing a matched set outright. I'm selling only because I sold the car I bought this for. Price is $2,500 or best offer, plus shipping.

Some early Carrera RSs may have had these seats as well until the factory ran out of stock. But the official 993 Carrera RS version of this seat does not have the "trampoline" seat bottom. The two different versions of this seat are shown in the Porsche European "Sitz Katalog," one with the trampoline for the 964 Speedster and the other without the trampoline for the 993 Carrera RS. My seat is the 993 Carrera RS version without the trampoline. https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...a1427cbc98.jpg https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...9738317117.jpg https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...6654c6ce30.jpg https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...0ad67f970c.jpg https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...2ef10f0685.jpg https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...2252b2aecb.jpg https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...45aa731f32.jpg

The shell with the additional X is the same as the one fitted to the 993RS Clubsport, however Clubsport seats were covered with flame resistant fabric, not leather. 993RS Touring seats were missing the additional X, had the trampoline base and were leather covered as in the picture. The advertised seat appears to be a hybrid Clubsport shell with leather cover. |

With regards to replicas, one has to perform due diligence before possibly purchasing, as the safety standards may not be as stringent as those required for factory-installed seats. Here are new aftermarket seats for sale, supplied by fsr-sportauto: "Porsche 911 964 993 RS Sitze Sportsitze TurboS Sport NGT M002 M003 Leder schwarz." http://imageshack.com/a/img27/3826/sq0u.jpg

The fit, size, shape and leather are spot on to my original RS seats. These are not the suspension type found in the 964 Speedster, however they will fit any 964. The pair includes all the necessary hardware, brackets and sliders with the exception of the seat belt receivers (you can use yours). These seats are made in Austria and are absolutely beautiful and would enhance any 964. Mounted and used for only two weeks with barely 30 hours of seat time. My loss is your gain. I paid north of $4,300 for everything including shipping and taxes. Selling price is $3,500 plus shipping/insurance(if applicable). Please PM or email me if you’re interested. No scatches, shiny spots or bunching on the front and no nicks chips or scratches on the back. I am confident saying they are as new. I want $2750. For that price I will include: Seats with replica FIA and part number stickers Side Mounts Recaro Rails and Sliders Seat Bases for use in 996/997 Brey Krause Adapters for use in place of the seat bases Porsche 997 Black front seat belts Porsche Seat Belt Receptacles Local pick up in San Francisco or I can arrange delivery in the Bay Area. The black seats above are not true Carrera RS seats.

I have the OEM Recaro seat from a 1973 RSR, driven by Roberto Quintanilla, entered by John McClelland in 1973 and 1975. It raced at Daytona, Sebring, etc.
Quintanilla liked a different seat, and removed the original Recaro. I crewed for them at several races, and knew McClelland well. I put the seat in my GP Austin Healey for many years, but it has been stored for many more years. Do you have any idea of what it would be worth? I would like to see it back in a racing Porsche. |
Bumping this excellent resource to mention that I will be listing a 964 Cup Car seat for sale in the next week. If anyone is looking for one feel free to shoot me a message.

Does anyone know if the RS replica seats sold by FVD the cult works and the Hahn are all the same seat or if they should be build at different places?

Possible additional source: the 968 CS had the same seats as the 964 RS, with a 944 part number. Same seat, different label. Had both, zero difference.

Also has anyone seen a seat with a number moulded into it before? This one has a number 8 on it.
|
Yes. One of mine with a 944 label has a "13" moulded into it.
https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...861779a463.jpg |
could this "moulded number" be a sticker painted over? Look next to the pic with the number 8.... looks suspect to me... but could be part of the moulding itself.
Now I gotta check mine! :roflmao: |

I just pulled my pair out of storage. I believe these are from a 964 Speedster.
I'm working to get these useable in a 993: 1) Does anybody have a good source for new bolster leather (the back surround down to the front)? Porsche OEM? Recaro? 2) Any source for the clips to repair/ replace the "trampoline" to frame attachment supports/ clips (see pic)? Any help appreciated! Beautiful seats in this thread! https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...3f87278a81.jpg https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...cb13a3d273.jpg https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...79cdb2319d.jpg https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...250b136e23.jpg https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...57f6d3d025.jpg |

When I bought them, I was told they were out of a 993 GT2. I have no way of verifying that, although it came from a racing team. I got the thin defroster-less rear glass from them as well.

Reviving this old thread because there are a pair of 964 Speedster seats up on Bringatrailer right now.

Speaking of seats....
The OEM hardbacks are still my favorite seats, but I recently installed Recaro Podiums on a project car. Amazingly light, easy installation, but surprisingly comfortable. No issues after 2 hours of spirited driving, I was impressed. https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...57d78f5fa0.jpg |

Just a word of caution those interested in the RS/speedster seats or standard pole position seats. They are definitely designed for those more svelte physique. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe the RS/Speedster seats offer the same fit as the standard FIA Pole Position.
Regarding the standard FIA Pole Position, I'd say if you have a 34" waist or larger, it is super tight and not comfortable. For the girthier (like me), you're much better off with a slightly wider seat (e.g. SPG XL or the ABE Pole Position). I have both SPG XL and ABE Pole Position and did a side-by-side comparison, and they offer essentially the same fit (albeit with some subtle differences in thigh bolster, harness opening location and size, and shoulder bolster area support). Here's a comparison of the ABE Pole position (left) vs FIA Pole Position (right). Just some infor for anyone considering these seats. https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...7e7e3583c1.png |

Also important to note, sadly, that these seats are not recommended for drivers over six feet tall. They’re too short, and they get very uncomfortable. And the slots for the harnesses are too low. At 6’4”, this has been a major disappointment. |
