Default 993 Project: The Analysis

The Research:

After many months of long research, I've gathered great information and photos from fellow members here on the forum for a GT2 conversion. Some even took the time and contacted me with part numbers, detailed shots and their valuable experience and thoughts - can't thank you guys enough! One time, I've contacted Porsche Motorsports, and they have sent me many pdf files, including the part numbers, prices and where to purchase them, so kudos for an awesome customer service. And Juha was especially an inspiration for this journey, for what he has been doing with his car. The whole thing can only be about passion, and Porsche passion specifically in that matter.

Through posts and praises on the forum, I've contacted Gert at Carnewal and thank God, he was the right choice. - no affi - I've received the fender flares, the rear wing with grille, front bumper w/grill and the front splitter. Although this was my first order, there will be many more from now on. The packaging was great as it took half an hour to unpack the big cargo. I'm a detail freak so as you will see in the photos, the parts are all ace, flares kiss the fenders perfectly, not even a single mismatch, the front splitter meet the front bumper, the rear wing lines up exactly in the rear and over the body. The rear blade has an angle, and it's just not straight as other replicas are. Inch by inch, the kit was an exact copy of the real thing.

The Development:

At my local Porsche service, we started working on the car slowly. First, measuring it up, getting the pieces fit and see how they look on the car. Supplying the right bolts, studying where to cut the fenders, and making a list of what we will need throughout the completion, seals, rear glass sticky, sunroof deletion materials and welding etc. Here we go;

We started with removing the rear Strosek wing, put the new one on, removed the rear bumper, took out the wheels and the inner liners. Removed the front turbo bumper, put the stock one on with the one-piece front splitter, see how they look.

Pulling out the front bumper to meet the flares and welding a metal bracket to push the bumper out and keep it there with two screws on the PU bumper and front flare. The cutting has begun...

Cutting up the front and rear sections, trying them on with the bolts Gert has sent, however, they are going to be replaced to match the OEM look with new bolts.

Checking and comparing with the OEM look, the rear wing has three angle settings, and you can see how the rear blade has the right OEM curve. And it doesn't weigh that different from the fiberglass Strosek wing.

Getting the car a nice little washup before moving on, removing and replacing the rear glass with a non-heated piece, deleting the third-brake kit and removing the rear sides.

Removing the sunroof mechanism, getting rid of the roof liner, started stripping out the whole interior, and smoothly sanding the top...

Welding the roof point by point, smooth it out. Didn't remove the metal bracket for the sunroof mechanism but got rid of the mech. I'm told the metal bracket is there for roof safety and crumbling zone, so we are going to cover it with a liner afterwards. We supplied 7-8 small bottles of titanium sticky stuff for the roof. Had to wait a whole day to make sure its completely shut and safe. Removed the front washers, pump delete and mechanism, weld shut the front washer holes.

Removed the side mirrors and door handles. Waiting for the sticky to get hard, stripping out the whole interior and doors and removed some of the seals to be replaced...
