Do you find that you really need to buff the Lacquer clear to get it to shine whereas regular clear looks shiney as soon as it is applied? (minus the orange peel of course).

I ask because i am curious why you used a Lacquer clear instead of a regular clear?

Any reason for no Varioram? Less complicated, less expensive?

... or just happened to be the only 8000 mile 993 convertible that we could find for sale in the UK?

Please do not read too much into the donor car choice, it just happened to be a very low mileage non-Varioram. The long term plan is to build an install a brand new 9m engine package which will probably include an intake system change, hence why we were not too concerned about the start point. More on the engine at a later date.

I'm in the states at the moment on business, so please be patient as I will not be able to post photo updates until I get back next week.

Would 964 SPEEDSTER Doors, windsheild frame, Convertable top frame and rear cover fit a 993 for a conversion?

Pardon me for asking, but where have you been for the last 6 years?!?

Both the two original Porsche 993 Speedsters and the four 9m93 Speedster S use 964 components for the build which also includes all the critical reinforcements which have to be fabricated into the body shell.

I have been in 997 land.

My main question would be if the 964 speedster doors will directly fit a 993 cabrio?

So based on what you are saying, a Cabrio tub would require further reinforcements before being converted to a Speedster?

Just finished reading them. Excellent read.
Outstanding work.
I now understand the work involved and the attention to detail required to do it right.
I also realize that one is better off shipping the project to you!

Neil has been working on the final preparation of the body for the last week and has finally covered it with the last coat of grey primer. The target is to bake this off, let it harden over the weekend and hit the car with colour next week. Can't wait to see that!

Once again I'm reminded how a Ninemeister primer coat looks better than most shop's finish coats... AWESOME JOB NEIL!

The last preparation stage before we see colour: the fresh primer is first given a black guide coat (powder application with sponge) before carefully dry flatting down to a smooth finish with 800 paper. Once it's light grey again, it's ready.
