Exactly where I am (finally). I swear, every time I start a search, something comes-up and it all goes on hold for another year. Starting to feel superstitious so I had better just get on with it!

What a dbag........... You got smacked and now you want to play it off as a joke?

Isn't it time for you to slap that plastic sign back on your Neon and get back to delivering pizza?

I disagree.

I am looking to enter the Porsche world and my budget is a "sorted" 993 or early 997. It's a no brainer to me. The 997 is a nice looking car, a better performer as you say, but zero mystique. I have no doubt in 5 years thae 993 with be worth the same, the 997, less.

I missed this post. Glad someone just quoted it.

Now I have heard everything. 997s have zero mystique. Yet you say they are better performers. I personally prefer the performance over mystique.

I still have a 40 inch Mitsubishi tube TV that will not die. It is one of those huge late 1980s models that cost an arm and a leg back then. It will take two people to lift it and donate it to someone who is in need. I am still holding onto it because those new fangled LED LCD TVs just have zero mystique.

My garage is worth more because my 993 is parked in it. If and when I sell it my garage will drop in value.

I bought the 993 because I can't afford the Carrera GT.

Patiently waiting for that bubble to burst...

Before the thread is locked, I thought we could prepare a list of the mystique 993s have. I will start.

The 993s have mystique because:

(1) You need to use an immobilizer to start the car (and they break)

(2) It has a way of keeping you in line when the CEL appears.

(3) Carbon buildup is your friend.

(4) Weeping is a way of rationalizing oil leaks are ok

(5) The ac cost what to rebuild !!!

(6) Costco sells the DME relays in six packs.

(7) Rear windows can shatter with no advance notice.

(8) Oops...there is rust around my window.

Just having fun guys......

Mystique?

I guess that's a word for it. Some people judge cars by pure performance, some by luxuriousness, some by purchase price... by all the standards, the 993 pails... but so does a 356 Speedster, or a Jaguar XKE, or even a Ferrari 250 GTO... except on that purchase price thing.

Cars, over time, have become civilized, many Porsche faithful would even claim the 993 is too civilized. Mystique is in the eye of the beholder.
