Default Excellence - 98 production number

A number of posts show the 98 C2S production number is around 1292.

Does anyone has a copy of any publish magazine, (Excellence or others), showing the production numbers?

I like to get a scan copy of the article and its magazine cover.

Thanks in advance.

Well that doesnt make much sense... My C2S is a 98 MY and according to the above no S cars were imported into the US in 1998 at all.

Interesting. The yearly totals agree but the allocations don't.

Does anyone have any thoughts on one difference i see in the two charts-

The magazine article does not list C4S as an option in 1998. And the second shows 299 C4S in 1998.

i wonder if maybe they officially made them in 1997 but sold some as 1998 model year? is this maybe a situation of all the C4S cars were built in 1997 but some sold later in the year were given a 1998 model year identifier ?

I ask as i have a 1998 C4S.... does it exist !?

^^^^ALL 993s built for North America were built by late December 1997. As is usually (but not always) the case with Porsche, cars built after the July holiday/break are "next year's" model. Never really liked this practice, regardless of manufacturer. Most other countries simply list registration date when referencing a car's age.

The chart(s) are missing data. My '96 C4 Cab is missing or lumped into the wrong group.

The first chart seems to reflect when the cars came into the U.S (import numbers). while the second is when they were sold (sales numbers). I think what the OP is really after is the production numbers, which is not the same as either of these. I think the Redbook has the production numbers...will have to check.

Up here in B.C. we can go for "Vintage" plates if the car is at least 15 years old and no more than 1,500 of that make and model (not edition) produced worldwide by Porsche for that model year.

The numbers above are for North America - how about worldwide production numbers for different models, such as the C2S and Turbo's?

The driver for Vintage plates is insurance - its much much cheaper than regular insurance. The downside is there are rules to how close the car has to be to stock, and it can only be driven for pleasure only.

Cheers,

Mike

Thank you for everyone's prompt reply.

I am looking for the world wide production number. As Mike said, collector plate has big discount on insurance with declare value. If it's less than 1500, I am in business. Any info will be appreciated.
