great video, i had no idea what everyone was talking about turning the key. Thanks
That's JUST the Porsche standard procedure most here on the 993 forum have used and discussed for 10+ years.
Have you missed those threads by chance?????
It was never really clear to me what the written instructions meant by "The immobilizer warning light will light up and flash". Seeing it in the video clears that up. Thanks again.
I finally got around to trying this again. Last year before the video, I tried the standard procedure without luck. I thought the clarification on the behavior of the warning light after each step, I'd have better luck, but no.
I get to the point that readies the car to accept the PIN OK, but my warning light behaves differently from that point.
In the video, after each OFF-ON "cycle" when entering a PIN digit the warning light is OFF then comes ON after a brief delay.
When I do it, after each ON-OFF stroke the warning light is ON (like all the others in the clock).
I verified the PIN from a Porsche dealer and really, I'm not even at the point where that could be the issue -- it doesn't seem to be accepting the ON-OFF cycle properly.
Anyone have any Ideas?
I tried the procedure exactly as shown in the video and also the other published ones I've seen here.

1: Is your car an example with an alternate key system, aftermarket or an early dealer installed option? Have you had your Motronic unit aftermarket-updated? The door lock controller fobs the instructions relate to originally came with a switchblade fob some converted to a 944 fob later on. If you have something other than this the procedure won't work.
Could you possibly be using a key turn technique that is not reliably working for the procedure? Can you describe in detail your key turn technique?

Andy- The switchblade key was converted to a FOB in 2015 by PO. I always assumed the difference between the two was just the way the two were packaged. Are you saying there's a different programming procedure for FOB and switchblade? That would certainly explain the problem. What's the procedure for the FOB? As for the key-turn technique - I did it exactly as shown in the ECU video.
There is one other difference I noticed between the way my warning light behaves vs the one in the video - in the step just before PIN entry - my warning light flashes much slower than the video.

Yes, it is only packaging. Sounds like you have the correct OE alarm/ immobilizer unit to use the instructions with.
Seeing that the flashing you note above seems a little slow to you I would check two things.
One being that the door alarm indicator flashes in single flashes, not couplets when the alarm is active, indicating no internal system faults with the immobilizer /alarm that would interfere with programming.
And that the system has adequate voltage when programming of 12.5 or greater volts using a volt meter to check at the battery,
Door alarm does flash in single flashes so that's not it. I'll check voltage later today.
I do know it's >13.5 when running (was troubleshooting something else yesterday), but have noticed slow cranking lately so that's a possibility.
Jay,
Here's the deal... If your ignition switch is in any way not functioning smoothly and properly as you "key in" your code digits, then the programming code could very well be going in incorrectlyly, which would explain it not working for you.
