As most of you know I have wanted a rear seat delete in a bad way. Well a while back I posted a wanted to buy in the 964 section and someone contacted me with one in decent shape. Ended up buying it (paying WAY too much) and it was pretty much toast. This showed up a little while later......

If you look close you can see the front was in rough shape and of course the Xplod speakers....

First thing I did was strip the doors/front panel and have them covered in leather

Then I started tearing the whole thing down....

And rebuilding....

Finished up last weekend and dropped it off at the same place that did the leather work.....along with 1.3 yards of Porsche silverknit carpet. Got it back today! As you can see I took the middle divider and tie down hooks out so it maximizes space. Very happy with the results and it was a royal PITA!

Bolted it in tonight....

Don't want to know how much it cost.

I will break down the cost since everyone will be asking.

RSD - $650
Shipping - $75 from CA
Doors/middle section covered in leather and completed unit carpeted - $153
Wood - $12
Carpet - $111 I bought extra to place pieces where the seat bottoms were.

So there you have it....a complete nut and bolt restoration. I am a complete idiot but I am in love with it. Always loved the way it looks and use the car a lot for weekend trips so it will get used both inside and out.

Very nice! Didn't look that bad to begin with but when you look at the before and after...ok, it makes sense.

Really it is a lot more complicated than it looks. The frame and doors are the problem since they are NLA.

Nice work, Boy Wonder. I am proud of your achievement.

Thank you sir. You got to hear me rant and rave though the process.

Besides the speakers the carpet was ratty and the vinyl on the doors and middle section were dry, and had numerous cuts/slices. Pretty much worthless and the front frame, doors, middle panel, and hardware are worth their weight in gold.

Wow - I can see the need to want one. Very clean and neat looking. The rear seats are useless.

Good work. Now all you need to do is get rid of those seat belt holes... Bothered me big time when I first got my RSD and recovered the rear shelf shortly after!

Looks great! But now that you have one, don't you think you could have built one from the ground up for far less?

Nicely done. Something I'll be considering in a few years once my kids get too big to ride in the back seats.

Nice job!

Doing your own is not that hard, but replicating the doors is.

Cheers,

Mike
