Default update

the prep is done and my buddy Steve finished the sanding today. He did the first stage of polishing and while the picture doesnt show it, the left rear fender is a bottomless pool of glossy goodness. There is none more black, relatively speaking. there are a few bad spots on the car that need a bit more aggressive sanding and one spot on the fender that needs touch up paint. Hoping to finish up by the weekend.

Great to see this thread re-surface every now & then. Looking forward to seeing more pictures of the sanding/polishing process and end results.

Default still working it

things are going well, although its a little sobering after the initial excitement of seeing the glossy paint. There is a chip here & there, a small ding on the right rear fender, damage from bird poo on the roof; all the things you would expect from sitting outside for many years. Overall though it's still looking good.

Default long winter

the weather hasn't been bad, but it seems like a year since I was last driving this car. Wet sanding is done.

Default final polish

This was taken earlier tonight before the compounding was completed. Tomorrow the swirl marks go away and sometime this weekend it gets a final polish!

You get some kind of special award for this kind of tenacity! Its inspirational to watch such a neglected car regain its former beauty! Congrats, Christian!

Yeah, I'm swamped with work and haven't had a minute to get into the garage. Very frustrating..The car looks great; I just need a few hours to install the lights, handles, mirrors, badges.

It was ashame that someone neglected this car to the extent of what you've had to endure bringing it back to life. Great work!

Wow, just read this post from the beginning. I'm in the process of saving for my 1st Porsche (993 of course) and would love to come by one in similar condition as I really enjoy restoration. Lot of barns up here in prairie Canada Good luck and keep the pictures coming.

Lots of barns up here in prairie Canada...Seamless
One of my neighbours, who is a very astute buyer, recently found an excellent 356 in a barn near Kalispell.

I'm done! This is just a joke photo before I can get some real photos in the near term. The car looks really good and drives like I would expect of a 20k car with sticky tires and pss10's! It was a long (but not that cold) winter chipping away at the many projects needed to make things right. The bulk of the time was removing, cleaning and replacing or re-installing various components. My locks are silky smooth, window lifts & sunroof glide quickly, the engine zings and oil consumption is virtually nil. Now I'll be just another guy with a black/cashmere C2S standing on the edge of the slope. Thanks to many who PM'd encouragement, stopped by the garage to bring me coffee or beer as needed. FDM was great as well as David the parts guy at my local dealer in Danvers, MA. I'll get pics up soon. If anyone is considering a 993 that has sat outside for many years send me a note!
