New car, or, Is it still a barn find if it was outside?

Slow going due to my work schedule but some milestones reached this week; engine bay is super-clean, wheels cleaned up, new tires mounted, f&r lights and housings cleaned up and put back together, glass cleaned up in & out. my phone/camera died so only one photo to share but I'll be back at it in the morning for a few hours. I'm hoping to get the brakes done tomorrow. I've worked on a lot of cars but had never seen something as cool as the drilled and vented front rotor on this 993!

Wow, just found this thread and read every post just now. Frankly, I'm amazed that you were willing to take this monumental task on. You must be blessed with a ton of patience, 993 knowledge and a lot of free time to work on it.
Cool project and I hope the end result is worth all the energy you're expending. Awesome job so far...

Going through the car is really boring, but I felt it was necessary to check integrity of all of the systems and replace corroded or damaged parts (there was very little that was not fixable). Now that's almost done! I hope to drive it this week then get back to cleaning the exterior just in time to put it away for the winter. The technical posts on this list have been helpful, the Jackals site motivates me to keep cleaning and my friend Bill has been most generous; letting me keep the car on a lift at his shop for the past few weeks.
If you've spent as much time as I have driving an old British sports car with redline tires you'll fully appreciate how excited I am to use these brakes and the Hankook rs3's that are fitted.

We put in some long hours over the past two days and have big news to report:
I went for a drive this afternoon!
It was great, but nerve wracking; the gauges were all new to me, i should have studied oil gauge flash cards to better understand what was going on, lots of afternoon traffic to deal with, windows are still filthy and distracting, odd noises, phantom vibrations, WHAT'S THAT GURGLING NOISE!? Oh, it's just the oil lines, where's my radio code? Why isn't the fuel gauge reading full? Remember to bed-in the brake pads, I think my clutch pedal is hanging up, wing is frozen in the 1/3 up position, weird, the center brake light illuminates the back seat,
However, all fears were erased at the first on-ramp...
Whew, where do I start?
Traffic was getting thick and I had to return to responsibility so that's all for now. Hopefully I'll get things sorted out soon.
I did take my son for a whirl around the neighborhood and he now makes suitable flat-6 noises to go along with his matchbox cars.

Check out the following photo-
Inspection sticker expired in 2004. The front suspension hasn't settled, the spare's out and the tank has about a 1/2 gallon in it so it's extra SUV-like. Maybe I'll get mud flaps.

Nice! Now that it's drivable you will find the boring tasks somewhat easier to tolerate, just think about driving it while you work.
Seriously, I'd bring it to a professional detailer and have them do it up. You will be amazed at how well someone who is skilled at detailing will be able to bring it back.
How is the wife holding up? They usually start to get a little jealous about now. :-)
