What would you replace your 993 with?

Travelling from ME to CT last week in a company SUV with three other engineers the question came up. If you could have ANY car what would you go for? Had to say...have it in my garage now. There is really nothing else that would be a substitute. Wouldn't mind adding a 356 at some point in the future, but never at the expense of not having a 993.

993TT or C4S
definitely not a Ferrari, love to look at them, wouldn't want to own one.
maybe when the R8 comes down to the affordable range (for me), an R8.

My friend is selling a 355 spider, tripple black with 16k miles, 2 owner car, immaculate for $60K. Once I heard what the regular maintenance and major mile point service cost it suddenly became very clear - if i could, i would. IMHO nothing replaces a 993, if I stay in the game I'll keep my c4s and continue down that slippery slope or look into a 993TT.

I thought long and hard before buying the 993 last year and I think it is an incredible value, so with the cost constraint, it is tough. An e46 M3 comes to mind, or possibly a 2003+ 996 (a GT3 or TT if I am allowed to stretch the budget some. But I think an early 911 longhood would be what I'd look for.
The Ferraris are tempting, but the entry point is low but the maintenance may break the bank. Not for the faint of pocketbook.

I'm fortunate to have two VERY similar 993s so I feel the need to explain my original answer. Although I have considered and continue to consider selling one of the 993s, this wil merely be to fund a different car such as a 996GT3 (I think these are an incredible machine and like them more than the later 7GT3), or a 964 for the purpose of building a 964RS clone/wannabe. I would not, however, become "993less" for another car, no matter what that "other" car is.
To put it another way, I plan on always having a 993 in the garage (finances permitting hopefully). There are several other cars I'd like to own, but I truly believe the 993 is "the one" for me. Maybe I'm just getting old (40) and becoming nostalgic. Oh well, these "old" cars satisfy my automotive "wants" like no other.

Damned expensive pine box. Or is your shiny new '10 at risk of putting you in one?????
(Love the distraction reading through here in equating what they'd replace the 993 with, and the REAL cost of some of the proposed replacements.)
I can't imagine anything else to replace the C4S with in the ~$30K price point. Anything newer will depreciate heavily. Anything older in a niche (say if I make a really nice street car out of the faux RS) loses a lot of the creature comforts.
Now, the yellow car at ~$40K........something popped up a couple of weeks ago that, even though I said I'd never, ever sell...........the proceeds of that combined with the ~$20K from the RSA (and a little cash).............hmmmm................. But now I'm guilty of equating the "something else" at almost 2X what the yellow car is, and it's really no faster on the track.

So you're talking about a strait accross trade? Well if I can't throw any additional money into the deal then ...nothing. I can't think of a car I would rather have in the $40k-50k range than my C4S.

When I was looking for a toy, I was considering a few cars such as Ferraris from the 1990s, an Acura NSX and ??? But I know if I bought anything other than a Porsche 911, it wouldn't be what I really always wanted.
The one thing I noticed is that none of the Ferraris had any miles on them no matter how old they were. That had me wondering....why.
