DIY failure here. [1-20-10 update. After inserting a new bulb and trying all light switch and ignition combinations without success, I drove the car. Headlight switch now lights as it should. Go figure.]

Bought two NAPA 17037 bulbs today (@ 99 cents). Spread the wires slightly on the bottom, inserted new bulb, turned headlight switch ****...no joy. Removed bulb #1, repeated with bulb #2...same result. The foglight and rear defog dials light so I removed a known good bulb. Still nothing from the headlight switch. I tried the new bulbs in the rear defog dial and both work fine. Do I have a headlight switch with faulty innards or is there something else going on?

We need photos....

Do we pull the **** back with our left hand as we would be operating the headlight switch or can we pull the **** back with our right hand as if we're outside the car doing DIY projects?

Where is the headlight switch on a right hand drive car in Australia, Hong Kong, Japan or in the UK?

For the light in the **** to glow the key needs to be in the on/run position then turn on your head lights. The bulb in the **** will be glowing.... John

Just pull off the ****. To turn on your 993 head lights on you need to twist the **** not pull on it. When you twist it to the right in the first position is for your parking lites only. The next position is your head lights...John

Default DIY LED for light switch

There seems to be much confusion about the light, location and operation of the headlight switch. To help everyone out I have completed the first DIY LED illumination kit for the headlight switch

Step 1: Find a LED penlight (I found mine mixed in with some mufflers)

Step 2: Zip Tie penlight to steering wheel making sure to aim at the switch

Step 3: Enjoy easy visibility of the light switch.

Please excuse the ratty *** steering wheel. It is on the list to be replaced with a 3 spoke with silver crest.

If you would like a more permanent mounting I suggest silver duct tape as it never wears out.

John, I wish it were so. That's the next thing I tried after simply turning the **** didn't cause things to light. I've got three known good bulbs but none illuminates in the headlight ****. Looks like I will have to live with a dark ****.

You've guys got me thinking, I might do HID conversions for both the key illumination as well as the headlight ****.

Went to Napa, got a couple of bulbs, pulled off the switch cover, what do you know, the new bulbs don't fit, they sold me the wrong size!

Hell, I'm going to do a fiber optic interior light change over, with one single HID!

Mike, I took my old bulb in so to not have that happen. Still not bright enough though.
