I polished mine on a buffing wheel with some jewelers rouge and finished with some Meguires plastic polish

Arena993 and I took wet 3000 grit on a DA then followed with basically the above and it worked out great. This process won't take the crazing away but it minimizes them. Five feet away you can't tell.

If you just want to 'take the worn look' off them (and the 'worn' look is pretty horendous), then yep, I'd run over them with 3000+ (that's three THOUSAND!) grit wet sandpaper.

If you just want to 'spruce them up a bit' with minimal effort - then get some Meguiars Plastic Polish (I think it comes in a white plastic container and is called 'PlastiX' or something like that.) Just remember to NOT let any of this stuff come in contact with paintwork. JUST USE IT ON YOUR PLASTIC LENSES !!!
Use a good 'microfiber'-type cloth to remove the 'oxidized plastic' (i.e. white stuff) that will be 'generated' -- and finish off with a spritz of some LIQUID polish. DON'T USE A 'PASTE POLISH' because you will 'fill' the lettering e.g. "DOT" and "Made in Germany" embossed on the plastic with dried-up crusty bits of wax/polish and it'll look crap.

Have fun!

Use some plastic polish, or light car polish. Be careful with any power tool, you can over heat & melt the plastic.

I dry sanded mine and gave them 2 coats of transparent red plastic paint, followed by 3 coats of clear plastic paint.

Meguire's #17 plastic cleaner followed by Meguire's #10 plastic polish.

Yes. Meguire's will do a fine job. I suggest you purchase the polishing ball, too.
It will work with any decent drill. I found it worth the few extra dollars.

I used Griot's Garage Plastic Polish. I had some very fine scratches from washing/drying on the rear
lenses and this polished them away nicely.

Might be worth investing in some new taillights. Funny, as my taillights have stayed looking shiny and new, but my center reflector is all lined and crazed and dull. Happened only in the last year, and I've tried all of the above, but it only looks good for a few days then dulls right back up again. I have decided to just spring for a new center lens.

I must say, I've had my 993 for 8 years but it's only now showing the slight telltale signs of being thirteen years old.

+1 passed on the red just 3x coats of lacquer

PS: How did you get on with the rear vibration/wheel balance problem?

Chris
