Bummer. Got eliminated today at work. Hope to keep my 993, but it's shaky.

As an asside, the red 959 w/NC plates...Bob Ingram's car. One of many, many highly collectible cars in his collection. A very nice, congenial, approachable person, too.

Steve,
I think Sam said it well...

In the short term Steve you are smart for keeping the job with your current company. I have had many years in the recruiting and staffing industry, and I can tell you that it is a lot easier to find a new job when you already have one.... Especially in todays economy.

This is good news then Viper Bob, that I took the low paying job w/my company. Employers look at my resume and think I'm still the high flying, highly paid guy I was ... a month ago.

A friend suggested posting on CareerBuilder.com. Spent 10 hours on that site yesterday studying companies that advertised jobs and then emailing out resumes. I got a ton of hits this morning from that work I did last night. Most if not all the job hits are for companies I wouldn't consider working for, but it's nice to see my inbox filled up with early potential holiday gifts. I found a lot more available jobs there than other sites I've been on (SimplyHired.com, Monster, Ladders, etc), so maybe in time the right one will come along from that source.

krj914 - I hope you're right. You have excellent taste in cars as well.

Only 12 days till Hershey. I plan to take some pics so I'll post them here when I get back. Looking forward to seeing some fellow Rennlisters there. Kind of wish I had a hat that identified me as a Rennlister so others would know who I was and we could stop and chat from that connection. Meeting my uncle in York, PA. at 930am and then leaving shortly after that for Hershey.

Steve,

If you are not already, join LinkedIn.com. I have had 3 HR recruiters contact me through this site in the past 2 weeks with open positions (I'm in sales/relationship management). It's a pretty good networking database. Good luck...it's going to turn around.

Ga 993 - Thanks and yes, I recently joined LinkedIn too. I think I'm on pretty much all the job and social networking sites I can think of for now. Unfortunately, 3 HR Recruiters haven't contacted me for anything like you have had happen...yet. I have received an email or phone call from every Life Insurance company on the planet concerning a new career in Life Insurance Sales. The problem there is that I don't want to sell Life Insurance.

Oh well... it's only nearing the end of month 1, and we have enough savings for 4-5 more months before my wife is seriously going to nag me to sell the 993.
Had an interview with a company today that has a seemingly great niche product with income potential of $120k-160K per year but there is no base salary, no 401k, no life or health insurance. I'd be an independent contractor and when I got home today to tell my wife she said "FORGET IT". She is worried about the no health insurance thing because of preexisiting conditions. On to the next opportunity.

Steve,

I just saw this thread and I remembered you from my old 993 days. I went through a similar episode a couple of years ago and immediately sold the 993 because I'm just a conservative sort of guy financially. Hang in there, don't give up and keep your positive attitude! People like to hire recruits with a good attitude. You are getting a lot of good advice on this forum. Good luck!

Thanks for the additional good advice. I will be "Mr. Positive" then on all interviews and on the phone with potential employers. I guess I already do this but it's good to see it in print again here.

Looks like you bounced back big time from your selling of your 993 by the cars in your signature.

Steve - sorry to hear of your situation. Even in a down economy, really good salespeople are always in demand. If you haven't done so already, check out www.theladders.com . Best of luck, John
