I did not see any information on how to change the frequency steps in either of them.
Check out page 122 of the operation guide, lower left side.

As PM'd earlier, you normally could ask this kind of questions on the Becker board but since it seems to be down, you will need to send a mail to becker.de .

Ok, you guys must be getting pretty tired of all my stupid questions

The answer from Becker is that the freq. steps can not be changed
On page 31/32 in the user manual it says that in "manual" search mode the radio seeks in 100khz steps, i have not been able to do this on my unit.

My extensive (in my opinion) search on the board is that the information on which wires to tap into on the ccu seem to be a bit confusing :

Link 1

Link 2

One of the links state blu/grey on the reverse signal and the other states black/blue (as in the wiring diagram). I am aware of that it is nt a big challenge to test for the right wire

Quite a few threads state that the speedo signal should be picked up from the red/white wire, while the wiring diagram says WT/RD (white/red).

Can anyone cast some light on this.

Sorry again for all the questions on things that might seem obvious to most of you.
But at least this should lead to a "dummies guide to installing navigation in your 993"

Ackerlie,

If no one chimes in first I'll check the speed feed for you tomorrow morning. IIRC I had the same question about red/white or white/red but when I actually looked at the wire bundle at the spoiler module I figured it out. The same is probably true for the reverse wire but I didn't bother the hook that up (which doesn't seem to be a problem at all by the way).

Thank you 2manycars,

Woke up early this morning and got a fresh start
Looks to me as it is a white/red wire (in no position no 4 from the "hinge" on the big contact on the ccu unit).
Found the same wire on the spoiler module contact.
It seems to have constant 3v power (car standing still).

Edit : here is a pic :

That looks right. I'd pretty well taped everything up but it looked like the wire I used was red on white just like the one you tapped.

I just installed my traffic pro (from the guy that was selling 50 of them on ebay). This thing is sooo cool! I love the voice commands. Thanks to everyone for the helpful advice on the install. FWIW the reverse signal wire at the HVAC control on my 993 was blue/black. Any cheap multi tester will answer your voltage questions. Otherwise as straightforward as a stereo install can be. In other words, my fingers hurt and I will probably have to see the chiropractor next week.

911XTC,

In my car it was the blue/grey wire that gave 12v while in reverse, guess this could be different between the MY's

Akerlie, did you get your radio working with the euro frequency steps?

Also, have you had time to check if the NAV CD's are working? Thx

Wonder if thisone works with our system:

PCM I?? I guess it's not the same thing? TIA

Viggo,

Unfortunately it is not possible to get permanent 100kHz steps, this is the info i got directly from BECKER.
On pages 31/32 in the user manual it says that during manual tuning one is able to tune with 100kHz steps, I can not get this function to work.
Can someone else that has bought the unit try this out and se if they are able to tune with 100kHz steps during manual ?

I am still waiting for the OEM plugs that go into the contact for the speedo and reverse signal, as soon as i get them and we have a dry day over here i will be able to check if the cd's are ok.

Ok thanks Akerlie. Are the OEM plugs something that I will definately need? If yes, what are the part numbers? I might as well order them right away..

Viggo ,

I ordered a couple of extra plugs that I was thinking of sending you along with the cd's

Someone mentioned that the newer cars (from 96 on ?) already have the speedo (and possibly the reverse signal) in the contact, so there is a small chance that you don't need them.
If you don't use them I have a good reason to come over to Stockholm and pick them up again

Don't have a CAB, but put mine in the top HVAC vent, just removed that strip & ran the wire.
