FIND OF THE YEAR on eBay

no it is not true.
Maps are updated each year or so.
In europe, we are at version 10,
in 2003 it was version 2
go to becker.de , its in english and they sell antennas direct for 24 euros
type 7820 in the search button or click here and scroll to 7820

One more thing, the unit has a built in memory chip.
So when you request a route, the unit reads from the disc and saves it on memory.
You can remove the map disc when the route is saved a minute later or so, and insert a music cd whilst navigation is functioning.

I have called Navteq, Porsche, and E-mailed Becker-USA this morning to ask about map updates for this unit (model 7820). Navteq said to call Porsche, Porsche HQ said to call a dealer, The Porsche HQ recomended Dealer didn't have any way to find out about updates. They said they just bought a DVD set for a later Porsche (2004 996) direct from Navteq. So basically back to "call Navteq" . Haven't got a response from Becker-USA yet. While this e-bay deal is certainly great, AND I certainly don't want to dissuade anyone else from going ahead with a purchase, unless I get better tech support from someone, I think I'm gonna pass.

P.S. There is a similar thread on the 996 board and several people are stating that there will be no further US updated maps.

What do you mean by ipod route, I have the ipod connected to this unit.
The antenna is BOSCH. There is no porsche antenna, or becker antenna.
I bought my unit brand new sealed and with it came with the BOSCH antenna,
The logo on it is the famous circle and an H inside.
24 euros on becker site

So 24 Euro is just over $50 plus shipping.

From what I understand is that Navteq is no longer supporting mapping updates for North America, 2004 being the last year. I've been very happy with my Garmin Nuvi 360, mapping and points of interest are updated frequently and being portable so it comes with me when I travel and need to get around in a rental car. One nice feature is its ability to speak the name of the streets.

Park Place sells the gps antenna for $35.95 + shipping, maybe you can return it.

DAM, where were you 30min ago, before I sent in payment? Oh well, even with the $95 antenna, it's a good deal!

I want the unit to control the iPod, as it will be stuck in the glove box, does anyone have any Denison, DICE, or Icelink installed? I'm kind of bummed that it doesn't charge the iPod also.
If not, my thoughts were to install a cradle, with the wireless remote, & just use the remote.

Go Garmin!
+1 on the Garmin. I have an older street pilot and my wife has a Nuvi - awesome!
