I have a 993. No idea if the same, but there is a sort of copper flat connector that gets loose if the brake is pulled too hard over time. You have to remove the plastic surrouding the hand brake (hence the three screws), look under the hand brake and sort of push this copper piece back into place with a screw driver tip. In my case, when it came out, it soon became constant, not intermittent, and the roof would not go up or down becasue the hand brake system thought the brake was not pulled up. Good luck. Charlie

Hi Henkinc, I am having the same intermittent problem with my handbrake switch. The light does not come on all the time (sporadic) when I engage the handbrake. I might need to look at my switch as well. Can you let me know if your Porsche is a 996? mine is a 2000 996. You mentioned there are three screws, are then on the plastic cover of the handbrake? thanks and appreciate this input. Richard.
