Default No more NA motor upgrages from RUF

talked to Ruf today . Im thinking of giving my yellow C4S more HP. It was confirmed that they dont do 993 na anymore just for the tt. I would like to know what are the basic good upgrades I can do to get more HP with my c4s ?beside adding a turbo

rs motor mounts
rs heater bypass
motorsound airbox
ruf coilover suspension

Alvin:

IMHO, based on having played with my own C2, I would first do a rear-gear of the transmission and used a Paul Guard LSD. Changing the gearing on my C2 woke the car up and made driving a whole lot more fun !

When you consider all of the issues of HP increases on an OBD2 car in CA as well as how little you can accomplish in actual changes on the torque curve, gearing, brakes, weight loss and suspension tuning are where it is at on NA cars.

My $0.02

Pure wisdom, IMHO.

Close-ratio gears makes a huge difference in these N/A cars.

Alvin,

Your problem is that you also have a 993tt. Compared to that, your NA car will always be lacking. Even if you could add some power to the NA 993, it will never come clsoe to the tt, and you will still be dis-satisfied.

It is a tough nut to crack. I see no other way besides buying my Ruf BTR.

Pong:

Having owned both a NA C2 and turbo 993, I have to disagree.

The NA vs. turbo cars are very diferent, but VERY capable in their own ways. Sort of a different strokes for different folks thing...

If you like pushing the gas pedal and that is what gives you a big grin, there is nothing like a turbo. However, if you like turn carving, a well geared C2 is a total blast to drive !!!!!

From my own ownership experience, my TT is far more prepped than my C2. Yet, driving the TT is a lot more work and is far more technical of a car to drive well. With the turbo power plant, you need to consider the turbo spooling in the mix of things as you expect results from the car.

With my C2, once I re-geared it and got the suspension dialed, I felt I had a gear for most every situation because the gearing really matched the torque curve of the motor for the speeds / suspesion loads I was driving. Once you caught onto the gearing vs. driving condition, working the car was pure fun !

I personally thimk this is the allure of the GT3 to many TT owners when they first drive the GT3 and feel the "glove" like control of the torque / handling.

Eventough I think that I have a very well sorted 993TT, I still miss the pure joy of working my C2 through the turns. I can still relate to how well balanced the NA cars can be.

I am definately keeping my 993TT, but if I could afford to do so, I would own another RS replica and my TT...best of both worlds !

Again, my $0.02

Budget (ok, sorta budget): regear
No budget: 3.8 rebuild, 9M heads, regear, anorexia = surprise a few turbos

Jim,

I hear what you are saying. I even feel what you are saying.

See I actually have a C2 with Ruf selected gearings to match the torque curve. I have not driven 993tt extensively to feel the difference, but in my case, I do have the fun of a 2WD C2, with the power of a 993tt on steroids.
