Mark,

Keep us updated on when and where ... and I'll definitely help you if I can.

At least I can bring you some refreshments (Krispy Kreme donuts?)

Where does Ghetto Racer fit into all this?

Can he drive the 996? Has he asked yet?

I think I found a video with him showing off his skills and talent:

In light of this and his fine driving skills he should be a worthy adversary

I've looked on the 996 forum and there is no mention of this thread - I've put that right, if 996FLT6 fails to respond maybe another 996'er will take up the challenge!

I'm for the 993 over a reasonable enduro - I think the 996 is probably a great street car (yet to be proved - needs more time) but probably not strickly a track car - but then that's what the trial is all about! Hope it happens.

If you 993 guys continue to take the high road and lay off the comments about the 996 being a street car, then FLT6 will probably have a tough time geting a team together to challenge the 993 group. Its obvious that RR wants to put a jerk in his place, and is not so concerned about 996 vs 993. FLT6's immature posts show that he is a not too cool, and I would be very surprised if he found many supporters among 996 owners or elsewhere.
On the other hand, if you guys start bashing the 996, you might add enough fuel to the fire to get a team of adversaries assembled...

As owner of both a 99 996 and a 98 993 I'm glad Mark has pointed out that this is about one 996 owner not all. As a matter of fact, there is far more 996 bashing on the 993 board than 993 bashing on the 996 board. Frankly, I think bashing of any other Porsche is pretty silly.

As for the enduro, I have no idea who the 996 guy is but I will tell you that with equally prepared cars with equal drivers your 993 bets would be in a world of trouble. Whoever stated that 996 is a fine street car but not a track car has not been in one on the track.

Just my 2 cents worth.

Jim,
I rarely see any true 996 bashing on this board. Maybe a light-hearted jab but nothing too serious. On the 996 board there was a post about whether or not the 996 should have the oiling upgrade from Porsche for track use and two people that actually raced their "stock" 996's responded. One later gave up on the 996 and went to a 993. The other (Chris Cervilli) still runs his but is very frank about the pitfalls and the upside of racing this model. He seems to spend a lot of time re-engineering the car to get it to run consistently, something the weekend racer doesn't normally have the time or $$ to do. It is a very fast car though and he has the finishes to prove it.

Again this isn't about 993 vs 996.

Greg,
You are right about 996 owners struggling to make their car competitive in C but remember our competition is the 993 turbo, not the na 993. Big difference.

Glad that it was clarified that this is about the claims, not the cars.

In defense of the 996, HWFMR's Mark "Gonzo" McC is quite quick in his. In fact he's flying. We are working diligently to get him down to team standards.

Jim,
I beg to differ. You will see more 993RS's or cars built to that spec in C. Rarely are there any 993Turbos out there in C stock, and even rarer is to see one driven to the limit. The 993RS has the lowest power to weight in the class.

Not a lot of 993's in D because they just are hard to make competitive against 964 Cup cars and 944 Turbo Cups.

This guy FLT6 has got really thin skin. I am willing to bet he is not in sales (and if he is, he won't be for long).

I just can't imagine trolling a board looking to be "the defender of the 996".

That being said, I would like to help. We 993'ers might be at a disadvantage here. To even things out a bit, I am willing to buy and install a set of Techart pedals in the subject 993. After all, he can't have all the aces up his sleeves.
