Post 993-996 Challenge race

The challenge was issued, and I am the friend that 996FLT6 said could produce a NA 993 for the race, so let's make this happen.

quote:
Originally posted by 996FLT6:

Screw the ignorant and comfort the wise. Mike

He states "me in my 996" so that is the car for the 996 team. I have a 993 lined up. In another message, it was suggested we do 4-6 hour enduro - that is fine with me or we can stick to the original 12 hour. I have 2 co-drivers so would prefer 6 hour or more.

This will be an enduro race with the car making the most laps at the end of the time declared the winner. Side bets are encouraged but not required to run this event. Each team can bring as many crew members and spare parts as they want and can afford.

Mike, line up the track and date and we are ready. I suggest once that is done, we find someone to take the money and pay the track and required services, such as ambulance. I am willing to use a 996 guy - there is someone on Funcars that I would trust - NASA Pete if he is OK with doing that for us. I hope you are not a poseur as you accuse others of being - this will be fun.

BTW - I got DJ and Fishman as co-drivers. We are assuming that a HWFM contingent will want to come crew for us.

As I have been away for a few days, I did not see where this thread started. If work permits, I would love to join the crew. I wont say much here as it may scare this guy, but with the drivers listed, please contact me off line as to who will be taking bets!!

This sounds like a worthy cause.
You can count on the full support of HWFM Racing.

Will you be needing the Team semi, or the Gulfstream?

We may not be the fastest crew in racing, but we are quick with a quip. Besides, we work for cheap.

The team is not only national, it has gone global. So I think we can muster a crew no matter what track this guy picks. I know many team mates like Danny would be willing to fly in for the event, schedules permitting.

Will you be stocking the track grounds with rabbits to add to the fun?

As soon as we get a date, I'll see about showing up -- I'm not gonna be the umbrella girl, though!

I know: when somebody asks where the hell the 15mm wrench is, I'll be the one to stand there & say, 'Use the Search engine, dammit!!!'

I would forget the whole thing. An enduro will favor the easier to drive 996 over a 993(less driver fatigue). The 993 is about driving pleasure, it's not for the "boy racer"(that's the Covettes job) types. If you need to feel better about your car, take comfort in the fact that you have the last REAL Porsche......and he has a wannabe.

Yes, the 996 should prevail because of inherent design advantages--why else would it have a coffee cup holder, if not for those long tiring enduro races?

I still want to go for it, and think we can beat his team - but be will have some serious fun either way.

Guys:

If this happens at any of the California tracks, count me in anyway I can help !

Would love to see this and be involved !

I may not still be actively racing, but having driven many four hour enduros, I would favor the lighter more agile car to win...the 993 !!!

Well, guess that's why I own one...

Regards

Jim, I thought the 996 was a few pounds lighter, a bit stiffer chassis, less wind resistance, better suspension...?
