Buying a 993, need advice
#16
Thanks @Gbos1
The car is in Belgium and we have an official tracking system.
Every time the car does some light maintenance, changes tires, oil, etc., it is tracked and the mileage is uploaded to the database.
Here is the file below.
The seller says the car has been stored and unused.
I haven't asked why yet.
Now the car has 83,000 km
I will have a two-year warranty on major parts (engine, gearbox, frame, brakes, etc.)
I am thinking of asking the seller to agree to a review by my Porsche mechanic.

It would be a HARD PASS for me regardless just from what I see here. I wouldn’t even waste my time and move on.

You asked. Probably don't like the advice but I agree with all of the above. That car is VERY rough. No way those miles are accurate. I own 4 993s---2 with higher miles and they look new. The frunk looks terrible. The engine bay looks bad. What's hiding underneath? What is the orange on the floor of the passenger side. The headliner looks pretty bad. I would pass hard. I've been looking at 964s in Europe and I find the prices lower in Europe than the US. $80-90K will buy you a 7-8/10 manual 993 coupe IMO.
On a positive note i LOVE the colors!

For the upholstery, it's not just a missing joint ?
I just noticed that the HVAC is missing his belt.
Indeed, one more missing fastener, probably because of the paint job.
Well, that car had some history to tell probably, or just bad mechanics worked on it.
Porsche just did the motor, maintenance, clutch etc.

Ok I'll pile on. Rough is an understatement. The only thing this car has going for it is the color combo. The car has experienced some serious neglect so I suspect it would be a neverending saga of getting it sorted out. At that price I would think there are much better examples even in Europe.

That's a ridiculous amount of money for a car in this condition, even in Europe. All alarms going off with me. Why take such a huge risk while there are really much better cars on the market for similar prices? I recently bought mine and prior to that I followed the market really closely in The Netherlands, Belgium and Germany (I still do, by the way).
Prices are steep in Europe, that's true, but dive into the market, do your research and good cars can be still found at acceptable prices. For instance, take a look at this one, just to compare:

This car is located in Belgium as well and I considered it quite seriously a few months ago. Went to see it 2 times, even took it for a test drive, but we couldn't agree on the price and I ended up buying a Speed Gelb 993 with only 66.000 km's on the clock in Germany. But this one's a neat car and it drives really well. Varioram, handshifter, well looked after, low mileage, nice interior options. The only thing you can comment on is that the left front wheel is incorrect (wrong et, it was probably replaced after hitting a pothole or something like that), but most people wouldn't even notice. Asking price is € 79k, but the seller will move down to probably € 75 or 76k (which is around $ 81k).

Tricky to be certain from photographs - as you say, flash photography makes things look much worse, and the interior of the car has clearly been covered in dust from we presume during the respray process - so we have to discount all of that.
The tires are 20 years old, which either supports the low mileage, and the car clearly having sat a great deal with possibly more exterior/surface rust than normal.... or of course the wheels may have been replaced.
Post respray, everything that has been put back was either done badly or cheaply, and old parts reused.
But what is happening in this photograph? Is this proper rust?
If it is NOT proper rust, then it would be a great project car to work through and get back into a good state - IF you got it significantly cheaper than the advertised price.
And if you want an easy life, walk away.

Hello,
Thanks to all of you, great advices, I will now stay away from it.
It was the first car that I looked at, I was attracted mainly by the colour combo and the look.
I didn't know what I can expect from a 30 year car.
Thank you so much ! ❤️

The pictures you came up with at the start of this thread show a car that would be worth no more than € 40k to my eyes, supposing all mechanicals perform as they should. But it would still require lots of work (money) to turn it into a really nice one.

Elferspot and similar have what are likely to be far better examples in Belgium/The Netherlands/Germany for the same price range: https://www.elferspot.com/en/search/...untry%5B%5D=NL
