Is a Northern climate concern for rubber degradation really a "thing"? .. Bought a 1-owner 1990 Porsche 944S2 coupe in 2000 out of Nova Scotia. Our daughter continues to seasonally drive her coupe. Hasn't been much of any premature rubber failure ... I got lucky possibly?

I really don't know, having only owned this one 993, but prolonged exposure to low temperatures will eventually cause the rubber to harden and become brittle. If the car isn't driven in winter, then it may not be as much of a problem, but eventually the rubber bits in these cars are going to degrade. Heck, the rubber bushings in my steering wheel horn failed a few months ago and I had to replace them. The phantom horn issue was embarassing. 25 years is a long time.

What is the best course of action? That's what I always had trouble with. Should I reinforce before there's a problem? (But then it's modified). Or leave it and hope it doesn't fail (but then I worry about it)
The sub frame issue is overblown like...spun camshafts, IMS Bearings, coolant lines...etc.

To be sure, I actually scooched between the mufflers, forehead under the diff, and took pictures with my phone in my bank's parking lot...looked like a fool, but it was worth the piece of mind.

By the way, this just happened...so, gettem while their hot...

Finally went live today on BAT. Takes about 4-6 weeks right now to get through the process. https://bringatrailer.com/listing/19...-911-turbo-50/

Sorry about that, my bad.

How do you feel about vegan restaurants? I kid.

Back to our valuation thread on a technical discussion board.

By the way, and I might be doing it again, but this thread is only 6.5 months old...that's pretty crazy.

Rubber dries out due to UV exposure and evaporation of the synthetic modifiers of the material.... go look at a southwest car
that has been overly exposed to the sun....

And by the way, there is no possible way that anyone unless tearing the body apart has replaced "all" of the rubber
bits....

Cold also hardens rubber and causes it to become more brittle. Lower temperature = less flexibility = brittle. UV also degrades rubber but the end result is similar.

I should have said exposed rubber. But the point remains. Rubber degrades over time. UV and freezing temps accelerate that process. Extreme temps in either direction are not good.

This is effectively my car- I have 118K on the clock, dodged a deer in 2020 and had the front bumper/grill replaced along with a small dent in the rear- but went on to redo the entire car to perfection on my dime. Arena red/ Cashmere- if this sells for $ 120+ I will probably list my car. That new Vette is kinda calling my name...

the vette is really cool but they are everywhere. you will regret trading something unique as a 993 for one.
