I listen to people who build engines, not some manual written by lawyers.
You're delusional if you think you're following instructions from the people who built the engines at Porsche.

It seems to me that unless you* can speak authoritatively about why that number is what it is, then there is no reason to heed your* reasons why it can be ignored.

*speaking to the crowd, not anyone individual.

If a Porsche QC engineer / lawyer wants to give a deep dive into why that number is what it is, I am all ears.

I have seen a PM from GM explain about how their break in recommendations aren't really about the engine at all, and that their Corvette LT4 engine doesn't really require any break in.

Not sure who you're talking to, but I'll take it anyway...

I don’t see why a grown adult with a brain cell can’t drive a thousand miles or so before thrashing their car. To spend 150+k on the damn thing and then arrogantly ignore the manufacturer’s advice doesn’t make you an engineering genius…just a f**king idiot

How much arrogance and idiocy does it take to translate "break in based on objective and expert advice" as "no break in and thrashing on your car"?
Following some arbitrary mandate written by lawyers to cover the company's *** doesn't make you a genius either.

Some food for thought.... A discussion with a real Porsche Engineer regarding the reasons behind Porsche's break-in recommendations...

Its dated...2011, but the discussion rages on...

I posted it on another forum topic, but the conversation merits apply here as well

Why don't you lose the attitude Pal.
Calling other forum members that you disagree with "fu**king idiots" is damn simple minded.

Now see that, you are a good guy. We are all car guys and on the same team. Good team to be on!
Takes a man to apologise, only took me 40 years to learn that one and that was 25 years ago.

The break in mileage/rpm are numbers provided by Porsche engineers based on recommendations from the piston ring manufacturer. The piston ring manufacturers recommendation of a mileage/rpm number is from its engineers based on testing a specific ring material with specific cylinder material for a specific engine. The break in period is different depending on piston ring material (moly, iron, chrome, etc), the cylinder liner material (iron, aluminum, SUME, etc. ) and the particular engine. Break in period and rpm is different based on all of these factors. Ask me how I know. Break in number/rpm/procedure for a small block Chevy different from an inline 6 BMW and different from a Porsche flat 6. One size does not fit all regardless what Uncle Max said 20 years ago about his VW beetle.

Ignore it at your own risk. It’s your car. No one cares.

Incorrect. Mileage/rpm numbers come from the piston ring manufacturer testing same Ring materials with same cylinder liner material with same engine. It is an expert engineering opinion based on empirical data from testing. Research it.

Engineers set the mileage and rpm for break in regardless of who writes the owners manual.
