I have a need for a additional vehicle. Just my 911 does not work out for myself as I travel a lot to motorcycle events and almost always the parking lots for these huge events (Moto GP and MX Nationals) are down a dirt road and park you in a dirt field. Thus the 911 is not going to work there for me. Even a place as nice as Circuits of the Americas in Austin parks you in a dirt field after driving in on a gravel filled road. Plus I cannot carry enough stuff in my 911 for week long trips. Now when I take a fun weekend trip to the mountains in N/C or TN, the 911 is my only ride!

I have my 911s, wife has a BMW 340i and I have a Acura MDX Type S as my daily and travel car. I like the fact that I can fill a SUV with all my crap and nobody can see it and with AWD it can go year round to any event up north that I want to get to.

So for me, just having the 911 as my only car is not practical but your mileage may vary.

To me is crazy to think I'm paying for a car to have it parked. We do have several vehicles in the garage but the TTS will be the daily, including rain and winter, and will see the most miles, same as the Cayenne TH. The typical hardware store run will definitely see our beater car but all of our P-cars are driven daily.

It's your life. I don't see why second car has to be something so boring as Pilot... I love my Boxster, but to haul kids and family and for winter I have an M2 and never been happier. It has surprisingly usable rear seats. Of course wife driving an SUV helps to afford to have a small fun second car for me

Ha this is actually what I was thinking in my head, but I did neuter it a bit because OP said Honda Pilot. But like you I have bought FUN cars that I all love to drive for some reason. And going from one to another after a while does bring back the wonder of having a new car. You are not alone /

For $50k you can pick up a CPO Macan S (previous generation) or current base model Macan (CPO).

Unless you need a Honda Pilot-type SUV, you could at least keep the ignition on the left.

There are a ton of options for 50k. I'd even consider one of those stupid cheap lease deals. I saw a Nissan Leaf deal last week with 3k down at $9 a month (not a typo) for CO buyers.

Yes, many options, but I am suggesting staying within the Porsche ecosystem.

I'm all for owning multiple vehicles that serve different purposes but why consider something so dull and utilitarian? Do you need to perform soccer mom/dad duties that often? It doesn't sound like you do and even your wife thinks you are being silly. If the only reason is because you feel bad about putting miles on your prized vehicle then that's a terrible reason. Every vehicle I purchase must be fun because I'm a car enthusiast and fun is a broad spectrum. Honda Pilots, however, are dull appliances and it's not like $50K is particularly cheap either. They are for people who actually need a Honda Pilot type vehicle, not to fulfill some underlying self-loathing guilt LOL! The best secondary vehicle I've ever owned was a VW GTI. That was a fun and cheap do-a-lot vehicle.

I like this suggestion! I may not be a great example of vehicular restraint but I use the 992 C2S as the winter beater (with dedicated snow wheels/tires), sketchy neighborhood car, Home Depot runner and houseguest loaner vehicle. My other 7 cars are the fun toys…

But I also don’t have a daily and drive all of the cars about equally (and they each get driven at least once a week for a real run)

Shame that most of the German Co still can't get their act together.
I believe its likely that Luxury buyers are persnickety so if that's possible then the luxury brands are probably lower then they could be, conversely if you buy a chevy you may not bring it back for a rattle in the sunvisor for example... so that would skew the results in the favor of the non luxury brands, which makes it all the more incredible that Lexus stays at the top.

We got our daughter a a brand new 2020 Kia Sportage in 2021 as she was moving out of state for school and we wanted her to have 24-365 roadside assistance and a long warranty, shes now 52,000 miles in and has had no issues, we paid $21,000 for that SUV in 2021 its hard to argue with those numbers. However im not getting one of those for me... but I am going to look at the KIA Telluride as a new SUV in retirement its going to be about paying cash and a long warranty, i would rather a Lexus LX470 or whatever they call the Landcrusher version.

The M240 ...isn't that the B58 engine? my wife has a Z4 M40i what a great engine and what a great car, very quick..and a fun drive, it was just very small for my 6ft 1 size, zero storage, i also had an M2 Comp for about a year, with the S55 engine, i didn't care for it, but i would definitely consider an M240... great choice..

The reason I’m considering the pilot is because I have 4 kids. My wife drives a GLS and it fits us all comfortably. But I would rather buy a car I don’t really care about because it will be parked outside in the driveway. So I started looking at 3 row SUVs and the pilot and grand Highlander seem like the best option n the $50k range. But honestly I’m leaning towards just driving the 911 and forgetting getting a second car. As the kids say, YOLO

You have a second car already, the GLS. Why again do you need the THIRD car? Is GLS not available if you want to use it?

Because sometimes the wife is using it? My wife has an x5 and I need her car to get bags of soil/mulch from home depot or a Costco run with diapers, toilet paper, bigger items. But I would just wait till she is home to do that stuff. I don't think it's worth it to pay 50k plus insurance, maintenance over the next few years.

That said, I do have a second car to ferry the children around when the wife isn't around as she works part time. My double stroller can't fit in the 911. I did have it before the Porsche though.
