at what point does it make sense to buy a second car?

“If you have no need to shuttle kids and stuff around then drive that 992 into the ground and enjoy the heck out of it.”
You will grow out of the “guilt” with time & miles. If the maintenance is kept up to date, the car will handle everything you throw at it for as long as you want. I am approaching the 100K mile mark & beginning the next 100 before passing it on to my son at the end of this journey.

thanks. ya i really dont have a true need for a second car. i do have to occasional get the kids from school but they're young enough where they can fit in the back seats. but ya when i add in the cost of the second car and associated fees (taxes, registration, insurance, etc) i'm not sure it makes sense financially to get the second car, because that would be the only reason to get it. otherwise i can drive my 992 year round and when when go out as a family we have my wifes GLS

My 911 IS my second (actually, third) car. Living in the Midwest with seasonal crap weather I would never count on a 911 as a solo vehicle. Others will likely have a different opinion - and that's fine.

There is one problem with using your 911 as a “fun car” and having another car as a daily.
You get bored of your daily and you start wanting to upgrade your daily.
That’s what I did after I got my 911. During my time owning a 992 as my “sports car”, and then later the R8, here was my daily driver progression:
Till ‘21: Acura MDX
‘21-‘22: BMW M340i
’22-‘24: BMW M850i
’24-now: BMW M8 Competition
So as you can see, if you love your sports/supercar and you miss it when you have a daily driver, you might be like me and upgrade your daily driver until—OOPS!—it’s now on par or even faster than your supercar!
Don’t let that happen to YOU, folks!

Getting down to one car is sort of the utopia, to me. Especially if it's a 911. If you're doing that in the T stick with that. It won't get sweeter. If I had a Dakar I'd attempt that, but I need snow capability. Though it seems to snow less now.
I wouldn't worry about the mileage one bit. If you worry about where the car is parked, and or the road quality is an issue those are valid concerns, but if not that drive that baby daily like a boss.

Oh man if you can safely park and daily the T, do it!!!! I work in an urban area and can never take my 911 to work! I envy the people who work in remote business parks and can stare at their 911 out their office window.
ps don’t get a Honda pilot or passport. my wife had a passport and it was a pile!

Not so much if the car can be driven daily etc but for what you use it. I always lease a midsize SUV as daily. Its my worry free car I hop into most mornings - 50 miles to work daily, runs to the home depot/lowes/groceries, long trips on highway with luggage, drives to my sons colleges and moving stuff for them, runs to dinner wirth entire family etc. While I love driving the 911 for every day I don't want to worry what bad backstreet I get on or if I get into a steep driveway etc, if it hails or rains like cats and dogs today or winds blowing trees around (not uncommon here), if I want to take some friends/customers/employees for a lunch break etc. It comes down to practicality - if I know I dont want to do nothing else but drive on my own, I take the 911 to work just for the fun of it. I use shorter term leases, i.e. every 2 or max 3 years I get a new SUV. After the lease is up, I exchange keys for a new lease. Lease rates are so low now that it pals against calculating depreciation rates of a purchase and avoids all the hassle of selling/trading in etc. If there is something I don't like on the one I have, I know I will get another soon.

Man, we are thinking about a third car lol. I also have a truck. I work 3 days in the office, and drive the 911 two of those. With a 9 month old, there are times a third car would be useful. I can get the baby in/out the 911 but my wife can't. The only problem is she wants a new Cayenne S and I can't justify spending 130k for a third car lol

My wife and I have 3 cars. the 992 is my weekend and evening car. She took my Macan S when I ordered the 992 and I took her Lexus RX350 as my work/dog moving car If we go somewhere sketchy, we take the Lexus...

I had a Civic SI as a daily driver but missed driving a Porsche doing errands and going to work. I have a 991 GT3 Touring, so I got rid of the Honda and bought a lightly used 718 Cayman PDK. Fun car for around town, the occasional road trip and in the mountains. Suits my needs well.

I am retired and have a 2020 civic (stick) for my daily driving as I don't care where I park it, and what the weather is like. I only drive my 911 for pleasure and spirited drives. It becomes for me somewhat of a special event which I really enjoy. Daily driving would take that away to a degree plus the car would turn into a high mileage car showing the effects on the interior and exterior of all the driving. When we go out socially, I use my wife's Mercedes sedan.
There is no hard and fast rule-as it all depends on how you view your 911.
