at what point does it make sense to buy a second car?

You’d be insane to spend 50k on a Honda pilot. If you bought the 911 as an investment, you did it wrong. If you really don’t want to use the car as a daily, get something else to fulfill that role. But as others have said, if it doesn’t involve shuttling around kids, pets, large groceries, home building supplies, etc. just drive the 911. If you are adamant about getting another vehicle, and are in fact looking at midsize suvs check out the genesis gv70. While not as “reliable” as a Honda or Toyota based brand, it’s so much nicer and gets you way more for your money even compared to bmw, Audi, etc.

Getting a second vehicle was one of the best purchases I ever made. Last year, I bought a 2024 Hyundai Kona N-Line and it pairs perfectly with my GTS and Lexus GX. On days when the weather is trash or I just don't feel like dealing with the drama of an expensive sports car, the Kona is my go-to. You won't regret a second vehicle. That said, I am toying with the idea of upgrading to a Macan...

I am a great believer that your daily driver should be a fun car
I see a lot of people spending a lot of money on weekend cars that they rarely drive , and buy boring cars for daily driver
I believe the opposite should be the case or both daily and weekend should be different fun cars

I live in Quebec so the winters are extremely cold, harsh and salty.
I cannot pull myself to drive my 992 Cab and parked it outside. Salt-filled snow and slush that clings to your car is bad, but it’s not as bad if it remains frozen. Once you park inside daily the defrost cycle with salt will eventually corrode the metal components and affect the aluminum as well.
So my current winter daily is a Lexus SUV. Boring as hell but extremely reliable and dependable. Now my ideal winter beater would be a used RS6 Avant with rustproofing done yearly. Working on that.

We just traded in our 2020 Gladiator with 57k miles on it.. it was my daily then i took a break from it, when i got in to drive it after a few weeks, i was like, this thing is horrible to drive, it was bullet proof but slow, the steering sheesh... it wanders all over the place..

I recently got my 992T and I love it. But I keep feeling bad about putting all the miles on it so I’m considering getting a second car maybe a $50,000 Honda pilot. However, my wife thinks I’m crazy, because she thinks I’ll only drive 992. And I think she’s right. So does it make sense to buy a $50k second car to keep the miles down or just drive the 992 12-15k miles a year? I’m very torn..
The real question is “why do I feel bad about driving my 911?”

really depends on your needs and usage. i dailyed my 992 for 2 years. 50 mile commute roundtrip almost everyday except in the worst of weather. It's seen rain and snow. I would bring my 4 year old to and from day care with it. I can't however fit the 1 year old in the back. Now I picked up a cybertruck to daily and for family hauling duties. My 992 gets to rest a little bit.

Current sitch:-
992 C2s Cab.
996.1 Taco
BMW X5 Xdrive 40i
we both love driving the BMW as a daily and driving it i care less about restaurant parking and long road trips hauling a bunch of crap and our bicycles...airport runs etc..
The Taco will likely go to an auction site next year, then later on we will either trade the X5 for a CPO lexus or maybe get a KIA suv,
JD Power reliability stats show Honda has gone way off the boil, Buick at #3 Chevy at #4
Porsche Number 6 but only by one point over the mini and Chevy, KIa is now at #8 and Genisys Hyundai and Honda are down in the pack... Lexus and Toyota are Gold and Silver you know their usual spot...

If the winter weather was not so bad and the roads not so crappy around here, I would daily my 911. Unfortunately, I have to deal with both which makes the sedan I daily a logical choice. The biggest issue is the roads. During my commute (to avoid bumper to bumper highway traffic) I encounter horrible roads. I imagine a winter tire/wheel set up would allow the C2S to be plenty capable in light snow/surprise winter/rainy conditions.

I only ask because I'm considering a 911 as a daily and I'd be putting about 150 a week.

Cars are like kitchen knives, each has a job.
911 is a couteau d'office (paring knife); I wouldn't use it for butchering.

I bought a second car because our office is less than 5 miles from home and the car never warmed up going there and back.
