I swear they're going to make shift paddles touch screen one day
I think Porsche is learning and adapting based on consumer use and feedback. Right mix of touch screen and tactile buttons is essential. Taycan touch screen for everything I think was a miss. Was nervous what they would do with the Macan EV, but I think they hit the right mix similar to the 911.

GTS is GTS. Three years ago or so you got the options for free at the end of they year.
it’s a no brainer question imo

This is coming from driving all 992.1 models though. To be honest, its all theoretical until we've driven the new cars.
It’s always interesting the differences in our perspectives and tolerance levels. The 992.1 isn’t noisy to me at all when on the highway, be it base, S or GTS. It’s comfortable and relatively quiet, to me, considering what it is. A Cayman is much, much noisier. I also don’t find the GTS suspension to be “way harder” than the stock S SPASM.

Man, I thought the base price of the .2 GTS wasn’t as high as it is.

$165k starting is more than my ‘22 with options.

Mine too! My ‘22 was $150k-ish with a pretty significant options list (….but no RAS or FAL). I need to take a look at what the standard equipment is in a .2.

We were purists before the S/T, so no RAS for me either, or FAL, because were purists.

….or maybe we didn’t want to waste money. The only thing I kind of regret not getting was the carbon fiber roof (…becuz race car!). Most of my option money went into the interior.

Everyone, you've all added great insight into my dilemma. I'm thoroughly enjoying becoming a part of this community

In case anyone's wondering I got a 992.2 C2 allocation specced to about 150. I'm on a couple GTS waitlists "just in case" I change my mind later on, but I'm personally not a fan of the vertical fins, the "T-hybrid" decal, or the unproven drivetrain. I'm also fairly young and this'll be my first Porsche as a daily, so if I enjoy the car, I'll probably start climbing the ladder later on haha.

Faced the same dilemma on a 992.2 Cabrio. Base spec was hitting 170k Euro in Germany—so 28k in options. Wound up going with a GTS with 14k in options. Local market advice was that when/if I sell, I would never get a buyer who would value my base options list as much and the GTS hit would be far less. When specifying at the dealer—I was surprised to see how many base allocations were still not spoken for. GTS comes in Q1/25. Now starts the period of configuration confusion;-).

I used to be one of those that said I would never buy a base and admittedly even looked down on someone who had a base bc in my view Porsches are a dime a dozen so I thought if you're going to have a Porsche, it better be a special one. It's silly to think this way, but I'm sure I'm not the only one who did.

Then several years ago, I ended up renting a 991.2 base off Turo and at first, I was hugely unimpressed. I thought it was shockingly slow...but then something happened...I started realizing that bc it was slow, I could rev the engine out and really savor the revs up high and it sounded actually pretty good high in the rev range. Didn't think much of it after that but then I ended up renting a 992.1 base and this time I was blown away at how amazing of a car it was right from the start. The 992 base is legitimately quick now and feels like a serious piece of kit. I liked it so much that not only did I dispel any previous notion I had in my head that I need a GT or a Targa GTS or whatever but I actually then actively sought a base 992. I knew that on my everyday commute, I could push the base 992 closer to the limit which would be be more fulfilling than driving a super fast GT3 at nowhere near the limit (especially bc I have other supercars for Sunday drives/track duty).

I've been very happy with my base 992 to the point that I now I have a 992.2 on the way and I'm now the biggest advocate for the base.
TL: DR: If you haven't driven a base, don't knock it before you try it.

My only issue with a base is that you don’t get to park up front.

What at a restaurant/hotel? If that’s the concern, I don’t think a GTS is the answer either. Perhaps something more exotic like S/T, 3RS, etc

Similiar but different.

I think/hope he was kidding. Especially with the 992 base having the wide body hips same as all the other trims, the average person/valet guy can't tell the difference between a $120k 911 and a $300k 911. Add a dash of GT3 side skirts and sport bumpers to the base and only those on this forum would be any the wiser. I have PCCBs on my base and even the dealer is shocked that it's a base after I tell them.

with all due honesty, and I have a loaded base 992.1.The only thing that limits the experience in my opinion is lack of PTV and RAS
It makes a significant difference in the experience
