Test drove a 2024 PDK T.......
Hi Guys,
As you see from a couple other posts from me, I'm trying to help a female friend decide upon PDK or manual.
I'm a die hard 5x Porsche manual owner, never once did PDK enter my mind...EVER! Well.....I test drove a used 2024 PDK T yesterday in all modes and I was blown away, really impressive. Both transmissions are great and I guess it comes down to how engaged with the car do you want to be, having said that. I'd think that paddle shifting the PDK T offers some level of engagement, sure, not the same as three pedals but still spirited.
Driving this PDK T it just did everything right at just the right time, very well done..
Now I'm wondering........Do I change my allocation order from manual to PDK😩

'If you know, you know', lol. Did you put it in Sport Plus mode - it's amazing. I love MT's as much as anyone here, but PDK certainly 'doesn't suck'. Only you can decide.

I had the same dilemma. Coming from a 6 speed 981CS, I really sweated which one to pick for my 992. Manual is great, and admittedly more engaging, but the PDK is *so* good.
Was talking to a friend about his perceived lack of engagement in an automatic right before I handed him the keys, and the best way I could explain was that the different drive modes allow you to prioritize what you want from the transmission. Normal mode feels a bit like a regular automatic; it shifts early and often and maximizes efficiency. Switch to Sport or Sport Plus, and the transmission 'gets it' and prioritizes fun. He went for a quick drive and got it immediately. On the street, I have the option to use the paddles and be more engaged with the drive, or just cruise. On the track or an autocross, the PDK allows me - an admittedly slow novice - to focus on the line, the braking points, the corner exits... It's different, but no less fun or engaging (at least for me).
Ultimately, I went with PDK and have no regrets. It's pretty magical.

never driven a PDK, I did have a DCT M3 but the "automatic shifting was pretty bad" once I did manual paddle selection it was a totally beast.
question for you, so when u tried PDK, was the automatic mode that blew u away, or you were shifting manually using paddles.

I don't anyone here ever thought the PDK "sucks". In fact, I bet most die-hard manual drivers here including me very much hold the PDK in very high regard. It's an amazing implementation of the dual-clutch transmission, and by far the best in the business in my book. On a fair-weather daily driver with only "379" hp like my T, I will still go with a manual any day because that's how I roll. On a higher-powered track weapon like the GT3 RS, PDK all the way and having a manual seems like a waste of extreme performance that the car represents, and that's probably why Porsche only offers it in PDK and why the S/T with a manual and super-light flywheel is so niche. Don't get me wrong, I'd love an S/T in my garage too

I still claim to be an old traditionalist, but ….. after driving a PDK on the track, I am now in a PDK car for the first time in almost sixty years of 911s. This one will probably take me to the finish line, but if iby some remote chance it is replaced, it will be with another PDK car.

Both actually, thats what really surprised me. In sport plus mode without using the paddles the shifts were instant!! SO fast the tach barley dipped between shifts and blipped beautifully with great exhaust and engine notes. When I engaged the use of the paddles the shifts were just as quick, but it was me who decided when to shift, not the computer.

It’s even better once you switch out the paddle shifters to magnetic ones that go clickey-clickey.

Everything I hear about the PDK makes it seem great. I am really glad I went with manual on my T but it wasn't an easy choice. Clearly there is still room for more 911 in my life and pdk cars won't be automatically ruled out.

I was surprisingly impressed. I was thinking before the test drive that it would suck. It was quite the opposite . I have to decide today if I'm changing my order from 7 speed to PDK

endless debate
I have said before and will say it again
both options are great, and if you have only one , you will miss the other one
best option, is have both in the garage
