She's not interested in joining Rennlist to ask one question. She has decided on PDK, her build is almost identical to mine except she chose white and ventilated leather seats, I chose silver with sport-tex

Then you should keep yours with the manual so you can have the option of swapping cars when you feel like it to enjoy the PDK when you get the hankering and she can get back into her PDK when her hand pain ailment resurfaces.

BMW's DCT is old tech for BMW. The PDK is in another dimension altogether. I had a SMG M5 and a DCT M5. Both were great when paddle (or stick) shifting. The SMG sucked at around town "drive" mode. The DCT was light years better but still not in the same league as the PDK.

We don't live together. We are a few hours away from each other, just friends.

I love manuals and still have 2 in the garage...but one aspect I feel is often forgotten - when I use the PDK and paddles I can keep both my hands on the steering wheel et all times and that is important to me when I try to drive a little "sporty" around the block.

All of these decisions are very personal, but in my case, I think the man-machine linkage and bond that can be "felt" with the third (clutch) pedal's engagement with the driver's shifting hand cannot be replaced by PDK or any other great automated transmissions for that matter.
Sure, you can resort to paddle-shifting when you are in the mood with PDK, but the stick shift transmission forces the driver to retain the man-machine bond at a maximum level of engagement and mechanical satisfaction at all times. As an enthusiast driver, you always have to think about shift points and clutch engagement in the back of your mind, something that PDK doesn't allow you to do 100 percent of time.
Having said that, if I had only one car in my stable, I probably won't own that as a manual transmission car because the SF Bay Area traffic is generally terrible at all hours.

For MT die hards like me, the decision is simple...
MT for a weekend/canyons/fun road car.
PDK if you have to share, or daily in traffic, or will track a lot.
PDK is amazing. It's faster and easier that manual. I love it in my daily Macan Turbo. It's just not as fun or engaging.

Grew up with manuals but haven't had one in 20 years.. ..Now cannot wait to get back into one in the incoming targa 4GTS. The more the world is going digital, the more I want to be able to do analog things.

I test drive a PDK before I bought my manual 992, and I thought to myself "wow this car would be great with a stick".
If you are into manuals, the PDK is not a substitute in my opinion.
However, if I was to track my car (which I won't), then I would get the PDK. I just love the art and the tactical feel of shifting.
