Getting dealers to reset the oil change nag light with proof of oil change
#121
Sounds like the easier option is to just deactivate the oil change minder component as noted in the instructions - unless that doesn't turn the light out either. Just keep a logbook of the service days if you are a DIYer, like people did years ago. No one really needs any of these electronic nannies, especially if they don't work smoothly - people were servicing their own cars for decades without them. Maybe Autel or one of the other vendors will catch up to the PCM6 and provide the capability in a reasonably priced diag tool. For the average person, getting an offshore PIWIS working on a laptop, software and hardware, is a difficult and expensive proposition.

Does this sound plausible?
If you do the maintenance and enter it into the PCM before the dash light comes on, it doesn't come on.
If you don't do the maintenance before the date/mileage, the light comes on and you need a PIWIS to clear it.
I'm wondering if exceeding the maintenance interval triggers some kind of a diagnostic condition. They have the whole diagnostics system siloed off with Virtual tester and I haven't seen what's in there yet.

I did another oil change this month on my 23 TTS and reset the maintenance light using an Autel MaxiSys MS906Pro before reading this thread! Afterwards the oil service info in the dash stated the next change was due in April 2025. After reading this thread I checked My Porsche (online) and the Smart Service icon in the PCM and both stated an oil change was due. I reset the Smart Service in the PCM without issue, and it also caused the online information under My Porsche to update. Pretty cool, but not sure I could have reset the maintenance light without the Autel tablet. Even if you could, it's worth having a decent scan tool or PIWIS to work on your car even for basic tasks (oil reset, battery registration, putting the PDK in fill mode for fluid service, bleeding the cooling system, and the list goes on). For those that don't want to go the PIWIS route, Autel did just come out with a new relatively affordable tool to perform many service functions on the 992 and it's the MX900 (MAXICHECK) which can be had for around $500. It appears to be intended to replace the MX808 that a lot of people reference and is considerably cheaper than one of their MaxiSys tablets. Avoiding going to the dealer and DIY just one time pays for one of these more affordable tools. I guess another option is to find a friend or acquaintance with one!

I have a 22 and I had changed my own air filters last week. I did let the dealership do the oil change and the brake flush. I just went to my car and used SmartService to reset the intervals for the filters. i just clicked on filters changed. It gives me the same option for oil service but I did not actually try it since it was just reset.

Original owner of 992 with PCM 6 Smart Service, Car came delivered with PCM 6 remember delvery person was like WOW you have upgraded software menu.
Approaching year two oil change. Yesterday was able to reset Smart Service for Oil Change, Cabin Filter and Brake Fluid. Was getting message Oil Service Due in 15 days / 8700 miles. Cabin Filter and Brake Fluid due in 27 days. Easy reset process via Smart Service icon.
Today get message Oil Service in 14 Days / 8700 miles. On 992 what is source of truth Smart Service or Countdown clock? Why do we have two Siloed oil reminder indicators not integrate? Which indicator is source of truth?
My independent mechanic has Snap-On scanner. Not sure if this will reset 992 Oil Countdown clock? He said stop by he will give it a try. Has anyone tried Snap-On Scanner?
Amazon has Autel MK808S on sale for $383, could go this route if Snap On does not clear indicator or just live with it.
When I trade in car no one ever asks about my maintenance history. They look for paint work and value low mileage on my previous Porsche trade ins. Currently updating all 4 my cars maintenance via CarFax DIY input option. Figured most dealers use CarFax why not update my self service records and save receipts for maintenance.

Ok, I found confirmation that they are separate systems that both need to be updated individually. Also another nice checklist.
Still looking for that PIWIS procedure, but after finding this doc I am pretty sure it will be under the Diagnostics section...
