992.2 Info

It says "Variable vane VTCI" engine...that sounds like a turbo to me. I can't imagine a 3.6l with a 48v hybrid making enough power to replace the turbo 3.0 in the GTS unless it has the THEV system, but the article says S/GTS will be 48V Hybrid.
What would make sense is that they will replace the 3.0 turbo with a lower compression and lower boost 3.6 turbo because they are having trouble meeting NOX emissions standards with the current engines in higher output spec.

If these changes are all true....I suspect a GTS with a NA motor will become uber coveted with extravagant ADMs to match. The article also mentioned that the 3.6 NA will eventually replace the 3.0 TT engine so does that mean the 994 will be all NA besides the Turbo models? Interesting theory...

There's a lottt of odd information here.
- The N/A 3.6L flat-6 has slightly less power but substantially more torque than the GT3's 4.0 – 483hp/413lb-ft vs 503/346. Lower displacement and much more torque, but the redline isn't much lower (at 8400)?
- The e-motor will be at the front axle, making every hybrid 911 AWD? That's weird, particularly considering we know the 8-speed PDK was built with space pre-allocated for an e-motor integrated between the ICE and transmission, so putting that e-motor elsewhere seems a strange decision.
- As someone else pointed out in another thread, "variable vane vtci" sounds like a turbo technology... but it's an N/A motor?
There are probably a few nuggets of truth here but I'm skeptical of all this info until something official comes from Porsche.

That has to be with the hybrid, and it would have to be a pretty significant hybrid system...3.6L NA V6 don't typically make anywhere near 483 hp/413 ft lb. A 48V mild hybrid is not going to get a 3.6 NA engine to those numbers.

I understand that they are resisting full electrification for 911 by doing these hybrid changes but what they are doing to make it relevant is making it more irrelevant, especially when they are planning to do efuels in near future anyway. May as well keep good ICE system functioning until regulations kick in and efuels are in.

Then what's the point of hybridization in GTS model? Or they don't care about redline anymore b'cos it won't be available in manual anyway?

Because they can't meet tightening emissions standards with what they have now.

You do realize that 991.1 GTS which also had NA motor made 430hp - that was 10yrs ago. It’s not unreasonable that new motor with mild-hybrid system would make 483hp. I agree the torque # is significant for NA but maybe that is where the mild-hybrid comes in.

Can anyone summarize what (if any models) will have a manual? Don't want hybrid, turbo or tech in general. PDK is a non-starter. Don't care about power but do want to buy the absolute latest manual production carerra with a manual for future proofing reasons (and next gen GT3 assuming they stick to the forumula). If an NA manual 992.2 Carrera of some sort is available, I'll happily buy one at whatever price. If I'm forced into another turbo manual, I'll live with it.. If none are available, I'm done with newer Carreras and hope there is a 992.2 GT3 w/ manual or even 994 GT3 w/manual I can still buy (additions at this point, I'm not selling anything I already own)

That was a 3.8l engine, fyi. But yes, I do think the mild hybrid combo can get the GTS those numbers.
