M-Engineering mods
I'm intrigued by the "optional" management features of an M-Engineering tune as I wait for my GTS to arrive. Most seem straightforward, like disabling auto start/stop. Can anyone provide some insights into these two options?
- PSE Exhaust Valve Modifications (true ON or OFF function, no need to buy a standalone PSE valve controller). How does this compare in function, sound, and performance to stock?
- Loud Cold Start Elimination. Are there downsides to this, like improper warm up? Presumably Porsche (and others) do it how they do for a reason.

The loud cold start delete is great and I can start the car late at night or early in the morning without waking up my neighbors. If or when I get sport cats or an aftermarket exhaust, this feature will also be very handy to keep the exhaust noise down as I can only imagine how obnoxious a cold start is with sport cats and/or aftermarket exhaust. The car warms up quickly enough with normal driving. Takes maybe 7 minutes to get above 160 degrees or so.
There are no funky error codes or drivability issues with these options or with the M Engineering tune. I've had that tune on for about 15 mos and almost 5K miles and no issues at all. This included switching back to stock tune for servicing and reinstalling the tune. It functions completley like stock, except much faster when you mash the throttle and sounds much better.
With this tune, yes, you can buy happiness

No. I can barely hear any burbles as is. I asked them to add more burbles but they didn't offer it. If I wanted to have no burbles, sport+ still functions like stock sport+ with no burbles. Having exhaust valves open 100% may have made the burbles slightly louder but again, it is so subtle on these cars I can hardly tell when burbles are or are not happening anyway.

Pretty sure loud cold start is for emissions purposes only, its not actually intended to warm your car up faster. It does warm up your cats faster which improves emissions. That's what I've heard but I could be wrong.

Been using the tune for 15 months with no issues. I’m on a zero map (no performance upgrade), cold start, start stop delete and 100% full open PSE. The only thing I noticed is on cold days I hear a ticking noise the first couple of minutes till the oil worms up a bit. If I am in the car and keep the RPM above a 1000 for 10-20 sec the noise goes away. It’s been 5k miles since the last oil change, so that may be a factor too.
I drove it for a while with the performance boost and for me it was a bit too much. The car is amazing as is, but it’s nice to know I can reinstall it and kick azz.

Naive question, but is this to say all the options are installed separately? That would be ideal. I was assuming from their website you pick the options when ordering and that was it, unless you wanted to uninstall them all.

Best part is, if you change your mind for any of the parameters, just tell them and they will send you a revision. They sent me 2 revisions and each time it took literally 30 min from when I asked for a change and when they emailed me the updated tune. M Engineering customer service is top notch.

Eliminating cold start and forcing the valve open are exactly what you need. Cold start serves no other purpose than emissions, and exhaust valves are dumb and I have no idea why so many people are so obsessed with having them even on aftermarket exhausts.
Let your car breathe, get rid of another part that could potentially fail, and if you are worried about noise then just drive slowly through residential areas. Not sure why people make this needlessly complicated

Waiting and reading everything in anticipation of collecting my first P car (T) soon I waffle back and forth about installing an M-Engineering tune. I'm back to pro install mode after these last few comments.

I'm going the M Engineering tune route the second I'm out of the break-in period. Our T's will be incredible with around 500hp! I had a 500hp tune on my 991.2T and it felt perfect for that car.

I'm pretty much right there with you. The question then becomes how long can I hold off on the S/GTS turbo upgrade. Does anyone know if I have just the software then update to the larger turbos later, do I get a free software upgrade for the turbos or do I need to repurchase the software?

You T ppl are funny... why not just buy a C2S if you're just gonna get a T then try to make it an S? I thought the 'essence' of a T was 'less is more' (which I can dig) - less weight, less power, 'drive a slow car fast'-ethos. Oh nevermind...lol.
