Default ADMs on allocations?

Is there an emerging trend for ADMs on allocations? I spoke with a dealer today that requested an ADM on a current allocation or I could wait for later in the year but they were projecting ADMs on future allocations too. Keep in mind, I have a "lightly optioned" C2, so one can assume that ADMs would apply for all models/trims. Has anyone else seen that locally in their market?

Demand is so high and supply is so limited, that yes, this happening. Not every dealer is doing it, but an increasing number of them are charging ADM on allocations. Call around and do your research.

My brother is paying MSRP on a Sienna Minivan that won’t be delivered for six months. I am paying MSRP on a build to order Mini. I’ve been told that I have a build number — fingers-crossed. We were both happy to pay MSRP. Yes, even buyers of boring and inexpensive cars are now dealing with allocations and production numbers.

It’s going to get crazier before it gets better.

Curious - what is Mini telling you about production/delivery timelines?

The SA told me that they used to tell customers “two months” and the car would show up a week or two early. They’re now telling folks 3+ months as an expectation, because everything is taking longer. Mini has a “track your dream” equivalent, so, as soon as I have a production number, I will have a better idea. I am hopeful that it arrives by Christmas.

6 month wait lists and allocations for a minivan. SMH. Sounds like Soviet Union.

Toyota's 40% global production cut is a very real thing. These problems will continue well into 2023. I just can't imagine waiting that long for a minivan.

To a large degree, I can kinda understand this with the Japanese brands. Anyone who has studied business knows about Japan & JIT, so that's a massive problem right now.

To your point, yes, for basically all other brands it makes little to no sense.

Nope, not at all.

ADMs on regular 911s is basically Internet vaporware

Well I can confirm that there's at least 1 dealer doing ADMs on them.

That would be the dealer to avoid.

You should be able to get a Carrera without an ADM.

Wait times are a different story. It may take some time.

I called around and it didnt take me long to find one without ADM. Or at least I was 3rd on the list and stated delivery was 4-6 months. I think the time estimate is a little optimistic but no ADM was a good thing to hear. So on the one hand, I may just have a local moron SA, on the other hand, every trend starts somewhere, right?

Secured allocation end of Feb and took delivery early June. Apparently this is NO longer the case.
12-24 mo deliveries is nuts.

That’s good to hear. Timeline sounds quite optimistic. It can vary somewhat. I was prioritized for a TTS when I inquired in February. It still took 3 months to secure it with delivery for 6 months later. Some of it is timing, some of it is luck. I’d say 6-9 months may be more realistic. If it’s a bigger dealer, they may well get a batch of 3 allocations at once.

The dealer closest to me said 10k ADM for an April delivery on a C2S. Another SA at a different dealership “thinks” they can waive their ADM for me. I am on their wait list with no deposit. We will see what happens there.

Dealer closest to me said a few weeks back that ordering a C2S would include a 10 percent markup and a GTS would be a 15 percent markup, and that the markups increase/decrease over time with the market. $5k deposit to get on waiting list.
